Imho all Xeons do not support straps.

This Xeon is not meant for OC, pretty limited options you can do.

Individual multiplier setting on GB X99 does not work often. I have a similar board too.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Multi goes down... Why don't you test it without XMP and confirm for yourself. :)

CPUz shows the highest I thought... it does with my CPUs. You can also right click on it and see each core.

Did you try Hwmonitor?

Manually set the BCLK at 100MHz with the 133 memory strap and a memory ratio of 1:10. That will get you 2666 ram speed.

I'll look at your board's manual to see where the settings to do this.

Yes, i am now using Hwmonitor...

Yes, multi goes down if XMP profile is disabled. It actually goes up also, but it is limited to 23 in "real life". That means if i set the multi to 30, it will only boost to 23.
But if XMP is enabled, multi does not go anywhere!!! Even if it is set to the lowest multi possible with XMP enabled, boot will fail!

Not trying to OC it, just want to get all cores running turbo at 3.0 GHz...

When all cores are active, the maximum turbo boost is only 2.3 GHz. When two cores are active, the maximum turbo boost is 3 GHz. I am trying everything to get all 8 cores working at 3.0 GHz without success so far...

I don't understand... There is no such thing as STRAP in BIOS. I understand that memory works in straps - 133/166/200 for DDR, 2133/2400/2666 for DDR4, but there is no option in BIOS to adjust anything called STRAP.

The turbo max multi works for one core only, short duration. From BIOS settings you will not make it happen on this board. Only certain microcodes were derped allowing to bug out and run turbo on all cores.

What about your Core i7 5820K?

Can you run all 6 cores at it's maximum 3.6 GHz turbo boost without overclocking? Or is 3.6 GHz guaranteed with only one or two cores?

Gosh, those are pure basics... Xeons have different turbo bins also. They vary a lot...

If possible I would just use old school oc, (disable power saving functions, no turbo) and then bump the fsb or multiplier and voltage then hard set ram freq, bear in mind as fsb goes up so does the clock on the ram, atleast in my case it does.

I know Core i7 5820K is supposed to reach 3.6 GHz on all cores turbo, since my own Core i7 5775C does that too; i am asking since you have a similar Gigabyte X99 motherboard, and perhaps it is limiting even your unlocked CPU performance, despite that it is unlocked...

Now that we are settled at Xeon E5 V4 capabilities, or should i say, the total lack of it, let's talk about memory.

Kingston Hyperx 2133 MHz CL-12-14-14 at 1.2 V

I will try to use 2133 MHz and lower the timings as much as possible. Currently CL-11-13-13-27 work fine with 1.35 V. What maximum performance can i expect? In the memory specs there is this thing written: VDDSPD = 2.2V to 3.6V. Anyone knows what that is? I wonder what is the max voltage threshold of this RAM? I wonder i can get CL-9-11-11-27 with 1.5 V?

I did try that, nothing worked. That Xeon E5 V4 is really dead when it comes to OC.

Go to kingstons site and evaluate all 2133 Ram dual and quad kits and see what has the lowest timings with voltage that would be safe for your chipset/cpu.

Mine in my Signature are the lowest I can get without BSODs or hard locks. CAS 9 for 16GB cause my system to detect all ram but only be able to utilize half of it.

Lets move on... unless whatever you are doing with this CPU really needs ram bandwidth,

The kingston website is useless. DDR4 is good to 1.35V+ for 24/7 operation. I wouldn't go over 1.4V for 24/7.

Want to OC? Don't go Xeon. :)

Ye, i had a Xeon W3520, that was a beast. Remember THIS? That Xeon could go 4.3 GHz OC! I guess the next thing i will do is test the performance of Xeon E5 V4 versus friend's Core i7 6700K .

Damn.. how bored are you?

To do additional testing? It's certainly not out of "have nothing to do". I have an itch to find out if this Xeon is worth staying in the PC i've assembled, will it beat Core i7 6700K in all MT tests is key finding now for me.

Waiting with bated breath! :)

How bored are you earthdog to stroll every day here and write poetry like this? At least i check TP forums once in a while and don't live in it.. Haha...

I guess the only thing you can do is research your specific cpu and see what it can and can't do then compare it to other xeons on x99 and see which xeons can and can't oc.

otherwise an X model might be needed...

I work from home.. as a reviewer for PC hardware... so........ yeah. Consider this research. :)

Previously, I worked for AWS and DC Management on the East Coast. ;)

You are comparing a 1366 platform?

That's nuts. Most Xeon are locked even that one. You OC using FSB on X58. Anno 2008. Leave it. That was the last place.

Hello, this new generation, new rules. FSB is almost locked. Straps are introduced to help with speedy ram for desktop versions. No real free OC for locked CPU's especially Xeon.

I have a unlocked CPU and can vary the BASE multiplier.

2011 Xeon is locked except few rare and expensive ES. For few boards you even cannot change the uncore ratio.

There are few exploits activating all core turbo bin, but you are not ready for it. And it will not work for this setup.

The CPU is a dud. Even at 3GHz it is not meant for gaming, not enough... it is a server workload crunching horse.
