Hello,

I've been gifted what I thought was a Gainward Bliss 7800GS+ til i plugged it in and used GPU-Z to find that it had 20 pipelines and 7 vertex shaders instead of the full 24 pipelines and 8 vertex shaders. Revision A1, G71, 90nm, 302 transistors

Is there anyway to unleash the full 24 pipes and 8 vertex? maybe a bios upgrade to a newer version of the same cards bios? One funny thing is that the bandwidth is showing 80 but my friend's card, which is the same card, is showing the full 24/7 shows 40GB/s for bandwidth.

Any help would be greatly welcome. thank you

Rivatuner might be able to unmask them or the bios from a proper gainward bliss

Hey cdawall,

I tried rivatuner and the same info is showing up. Looks like this is a standard G70/NV47 gainward 7800GS model. 425/625, GDDR3. But I'm wondering if I could unleash the 24/8 somehow anyway? Looks like whomever the previous owner was altered the bios so the clock was set at 1250 instead of 625 and so the bandwidth was showing up as 80GB/s instead of the 40GB/s as my friends true 7800+ does.

I thought the standard 7800GS version came with 18 pipelines and 7 vertex shaders. Since the new GPU-Z is showing it's a G71, and old rivatuner is showing it's a G70/NV47 maybe the card is actually a G71. Maybe I should take apart to reveal the gpu chip surface to see if it is labeled with G71 as my friends card is?

I'm unsure as how I should proceed to get the full 24/8. I'm thinking maybe the incorrect bios was installed by previous owner and this is why conflicting info is showing up for card with different software titles.

Hello,

Would it not be more efficient and stable to alter the existing card bios or upgrade the card bios to unleash the full 24/8? Rather than use software like rivatuner? Just wondering. Thank you for the link...this will be helpful. Cheers

I attempted the rivatuner mode to unleash the 4 pipelines and 1 vertex shader but they show up in rivatuner as disabled (pixel unit 3 state disabled....vertex unit 7 disabled. I think this means that the 4 pipelines and 1 vertex shader is disabled in the card bios so when the card boots up...your stuck with the bios settings.

What I find funny is that the fan speed settings are set to 20% and 50% in the bios for my friends 7800GS+ card. But I was able to change the fan speed settings for the gifted card (7800GS) to 100% at boot. But since gainward limits the fan speeds in bios for these 7800 series cards for agp...I'm thinking someone altered the bios for this 7800 card.

I think maybe my only option to unleash the 4 pipelines and 1 vertex shader is to alter the bios and or update the bios to the 7800+ bios version of the card. Since the card has 20 pipelines it must be the same G70 chip (nicknamed G71) as the 7800+ card. So maybe the bios for the 7800+ card will work with this standard 7800 card? I just don't know.... any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Thank you for the link. I guess I'm going to have to take the plunge and alter the bios for the card. I think I saw a guide here for doing this. I'll have to search for it. Maybe I can also alter the bios for my 7800+ so the fan will work at 100% from boot...to keep the card cooler. Since the fan is fairly silent a 50% increase should not be too much of a noise increase.

Any help?
