Games raising kids IQ!

The human brain is designed to learn from experiences in any situation. Children's IQ points are always increasing despite unhealthy environments, bad teachers, or abusive/unfit parents. It would be impossible to not "learn" from something as consuming as a well made game.

I dont think learning involves IQ, since Intelligence and Wisdom are different things.
Intelligence is understanding
Wisdom is knowing
You can be intelligent without knowing stuff, like a crow and a dolphin are considered intelligent

experience in things other than textbooks encourages lateral thinking as well as giving them greater life experience (especially since electronics are everywhere these days, regarding the games)


They get experience from using the things (how to turn it on, basic troubleshooting and usage skills they can apply to other electronic devices) - and then they get the learning from the games itself.

Its not just the lesson, its the medium as well

That's true. Although aside from Leap Frog games I don's see many games that are a positive environment for kids.

the problem with games like WoW and other MMO's is that they do not encourage thinking. they encourage asking other people for answers, or googling the 'right' way to do things.


With these other games, they think for themselves or ask classmates for help when they cant do it - which teaches them as well as encouraging positive social interaction.

MMOs do not require thinking i though that was pretty clear, MMOs are like virtual myspaces.
I meant that not only do games encourage thinking but also socialising when people say that it isolates people.

Trust me its safe here ive been chased by gangs but you can always out run them at worst the beat you up but you never die well usually anyway ive only been chased twice in my lifetime.
Common people cant get guns i fucking live here i think i should know a lot more than you about it, criminals will always smuggle guns but not the common person. You seem to think there are tonnes of underground illegal guns over here which there isnt. Organised crime yeah and they might sell to a few nut jobs but its minuscule in scale.
Manchester in England is probably the worst for guns but even then its pretty low they are all mostly smuggled or replicas modified which are more dangerous to the user as they can explode under firing.

Its not like anyone can get a license for guns in the UK only farmers, so i think its pretty sure that im never going to be mugged at gun point over here.
There is actually an outrage at the amount of armed police due to terrorism, people in the UK think its to much.

Never tell me my country needs guns when we have done fine without them for years, maybe if guns where illegal you wouldn't have been mugged at gun point?
ill never own shoot or carry a gun ever and dont tell me i should right.

Believe it or not your country's own intelligence services know more about the illegal guns in your country than you. They say its around 4 million a couple years ago... 4 million isn't "tons"? I think you are telling yourself that you are safe, which is a false sense of security. I personally appreciate the power to defend myself and not just run, but we all think differently I guess. I don't fear things and run from them, I prepare for them. If you don't defend yourself and kill or disable the gang member(s) what will they do to the next guy that can't run as fast?

Back on topic: I wish there was more infotainment available for kids and adults. The interactive types would be great for kids to get ahead in there weakest subject. Not the crappy leap frog stuff that is using the oldest tech imaginable. PC games and console games could do it. Maybe even stuff for consoles that have a grading process so parents could check on the progress which gets saved to the memory card/hard drive. They should market that stuff to the parents of course. Its not like most kids would be immediately interested. Immigrant families could use it to teach their kids english without having to have a mastery of english themselves. That would boost the general education in the USA which is often brought down by having to teach absolute basics to these immigrant kids and they usually never catch up until high school if ever.

Oh its nothing compared to the USA if you were using that as a comparison. I am saying the criminals have them easily accessible, not the common man. I feel you guys are missing that point. You guys are not criminals right?

On a side note: Canada(our friendly neighbor with nothing like our crime rate) has more guns than people.

I know alot about WW2 because of games. So yeah you can learn alot from them. Also I learned alot about guns and military stuff through games.

Learning and retaining knowledge of a single subject wouldn't equate.

It's safe to say that nothing can noticeably alter a human's IQ level, however it is plausible that extended exposure to things like hand-eye coordination tasks(which is prevelant in video games), would increase a human's ability to physically adapt to certain situations.

And while practice makes perfect, you don't play Call of Duty, in order to become a good soldier...

I find these kind of subjects to be a massive waste of people's time, money and resources. And only serves as some type of blanketed excuse to justify our inability to remove video entertainemnt from the lives of our kids.

If you want children to be good at something, then teach them the value of discipline and resilience - support them on what they enjoy(with a parental nudge here and there) and then let them handle the rest.

It's laughable how much we pore into and over 'studies' to try and explain the natural things in life, as if they are some phenomena that scientists just can't quite put their finger on, and it sends them into some obssessive investigate overdrive - determined to 'understand' the workings of our existence.
