For me it definitely has to be HALO.
Played it on XBOX and PC as much as i can bare and still could barely get myself to go much further than a quarter of the game, it's just the same thing over and over again rinse repeat, boring overused enemies too that because of the frequency of the fights with them becomes very old fast.

i would call it a console technical marvel for it's time but it's game play and story? most generic tripe i have ever witnessed.

Goldeneye was the true marvel in game play, it never tried to be something it wasn't.

Worthy mention for better games near or before it's time?

Half Life
Half Life 2
Goldeneye
Turok 1 / 2/ 3
Alien Resurrection on PS1
Quake
DOOM

What a pile of shit.

Anyway your turn lol.

I probably have more I can think of...

I did like Halo not for the singleplayer which was boring but the multiplayer was amazing with networked Xbox's on ethernet cables.

1) Black and white: overhyped dreck. This discouraged me from preordering or buying games on launch day at full price ever since. Thanks Molyneux. In retrospect this saved me a lot of money over the years.
2) Half Life 2: most mediocre game I've ever played, I have no idea why people loved this one so much when other games from the same time period such as Far Cry (first one), Doom 3, and F.E.A.R, COD2, Quake4 all played so much better. It just lacked anything interesting in it.
3) System Shock 2: This game was pretty awful. I couldn't get past 1-2 hours in it, maybe because I never played it when it was new. The graphics were bad but thats not why I hated it. Also the monkey really pissed me off.
4) L.A.Noire: I liked the facial capture but that was also done well in Red Dead which was actually a fun game, whereas this game was like watching paint dry. Really boring. Interrogations were such a hit or miss gimmick where it was easier to just look up the correct solution because the actors/actresses were bad.
5) Dragon Age Origins: Ouch, what a bad version of The Witcher. For a medieval fantasy society, things were so progressive it hurt.
6) Civ V: Civ 3 was the best. Civ V can't stack units. Felt too simplified.
7) Fallout New Vegas: Fallout 3 was better, I couldn't get into NV. Maybe it was the overly long tutorial starter mission. I liked Fallout 1 and 2 much better than either 3 or NV and I haven't played 4.

This is list is compiled from games I hated enough to review on Steam and people downvoted the reviews because they clearly disagree with me hating on it:
-Transistor (55%)
-The Last Remnant (53%)
-Starpoint Gemini 2 (38%)
-The Beginner's Guide (33%)
-Metal Gear Rising: Revengence (33%)
-Deponia: The Complete Journey (29%)

All of these I played in full, I gave my brutally honest opinion, and there's an adequate sample size of people that reviewed the review to show people disliked what I had to say about it. I stand by what I said in every one. They all have glaring design flaws/ideas/execution that ruined them for me. I don't think any of them have been patched to fix said issues (some can't, like The Beginner's Guide, because the entire premise of it is bad).

Yeah, these aren't AAA games but AAA usually put enough effort in and have run the idea by enough focus groups to not completely fuck up.

Skyrim comes to mind. I understand why everyone loves it, but it's just not for me.

While I don't want to say that I hated it, Half Life 2 wasn't all that great. I've played it through once was like, "... OK." Since then, I've tried several time, maybe 3-4, to get back into it and go for another play through, but I never get too far or too into it, and then I give up.

Lastly Fallout 3. I tried 2 times to play the game and never made it out of the vault. Perhaps if I had, it would have been a better game but I never could stick with it.

the GTA series. as much as i loved GTA 1/GTA2 as a kid, the newer ones just never had much appeal.

It tempted you with an open world to do whatever you wanted, but the game itself prevented you from DOING anything you wanted - congrats you know where all the cool stuff is, now play X mission with Y vehicle, all pre-scripted and instant fail if you deviate for a second to enjoy the open world.

Saints Row IV is where i jumped to that side of the open world fence, and the extra freedom there really made me love that game.

Edit: i watched younger family members play GTA V last week and they ignored all the missions and only played it to steal fast cars, break into a military base, steal a jet and blow things up. They had zero interest in the actual game, and only in doing that one thing over and over and over.
Definition of insanity? I hated the fact the world just 'reset' the moment you walked away or died.

Transistor was just all around meeeeeeehhhhhhhhh. If you have slow upload speed (less than 512 kbps), prepare of the game to hitch over and over as it uploads crap to Steam (only way to stop it is to put Steam into offline). The story was nigh impossible to follow and/or forgettable (like immediately), I can't figure out which. Combat was so-so, certainly inferior to Bastion. There was only one good song in it where it's predecessor was chalk full of great ones. Here it is:
That one I'd rate "A," the rest are "C" at best. Of the probably 40 songs, that's literally the only one that made me stop and go, "dayum dat good shit." That was the case for virtually every song in Bastion.

Deponia? It just dragged on and on and on. You know, like those games that should have ended with the first but they keep pumping out sequel after sequel. It wasn't particularly fun, funny, or anything. The only thing I really liked about it was the chapter transition mini-musicals. The ending was anti-climatic and I was just grateful it was over.

Alien Colonial Marines.... all i did was follow a guide before playing... tweaked the game and voila... cool game.

NVM.

the local game was total shit, but the second i built the 1st armadillo, it was a wrap. the only issue i had was the thick concentration of hacker scrubs.i dont mind saying THAT was a game i was unstoppable @.

To me it's the original NFS Most Wanted, not hated it, but considered it inferior. Bad wheel handinlg, repetitive, allowing less customizaations and simplifying the performance tunning killed it for me. I liked shift 2 but I hate all of the others after Most Wanted.

Hmmm, only ones that come to mind that I dislike are:

WoW, just could not get into it. Felt way to repetitive and dull.
Project Gotham Racing. I just could not enjoy it. Felt like the cars where lead bricks or something.
First Assassin Creed game. Got bored fast, never finished the blasted thing.
Dead Rising. Got bored with this one too.
Burnout Paradise. Was not fond of the open map racing.
The Last of Us. Sorry, but the story and characters where not grabbing my attention at all. Only thing I kind of like was the clickers. Scared the crap out of me, but the rest was bleh.

One I truly despise....Sim City remake. EA has since been on my crap list plus Maxis since that game came out. If there one series I loved to death it was the Sim City games, but they gutted it like a fish and over simplify the game play in the latest one.
