I never finished a massive pile of games, mostly because they failed to grip me, or because I got bored of them in short order. I'm probably getting old, and by far prefer reading books for storylines (if anyone here hasn't read Iain M. Banks' Culture books, DO IT) rather than play games in recent years. As a result I tend to put hundreds of hours into things like Crusader Kings 2, Stellaris, Cities: Skylines, Rimworld, Battletech (Roguetech mod), FTL (Endless mod) and the like, rather than play storyline based games (whereas previously I played Baldur's Gate 2 multiple times, and Mass Effect 1 and 2 as every possible combination of classes, romance subplots and paragon/renegade choices).

My list of gaming shame includes (in no particular order):
Metro 2033
S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Half-Life (and this no 2, and hence I don't care for the HL3 memes)
The Witcher (and as a result I never played 2 or 3)
Heavy Rain
Dragon Age II
Final Fantasy XIII
Metal Gear Solid V
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (and as a result none of the rest of the series)
Red Dead Redemption 1 (and thus no RDR2)
Skyrim
Fallout 4
Xenonaunts (But I played it a lot and I'll still get Xenonauts 2 - This is very much my kind of game, I just didn't really feel the need to finish a play-through after several)
Starpoint Gemini 2
Void Destroyer
Frozen Synapse
Orwell
This War of Mine
Borderlands (and thus no Borderlands 2 - I actually love the game, but it is rather grindey)
Pillars of Eternity

I think 75% of my steam library are games I never finished or picked up but never installed. Steam Sales are dangerous. Skyrim, Witcher 3, We happy Few, BioShock Infinite just to name a few.

I don't think this post can fit the list of games I never finished, however, some were more regretable then others.

For example
Stalker series- depressive, was awesome at start, but as I progressed, became worse
Elder Scrolls series - poorly populated, also became depressive at later stages
Pillars of Eternity - had to reinstall windows, forgot to put save game in a safe spot
Fallout 4 - this game killed me before it hit the shelves with their physical arm addons...then I got killed by something similar to rats when I entered the workshop..at easy mode..hrmph...didn't play it longer then 30 mins, and it used to be my fav franchise
Fallout 76 - nah, I skipped 4, no point with messing with this series anymore, it's dead, Jim.
divinity original sin - I don't have autosaves, and there are landmines I can't detect every time I do a big chunk of story....go scr*w someone else
pathfinder: kingmaker - I'm supposed to go online and read a manual to beat the other ship? nuh-uh, I don't think so...
Kingdom come deliverance - sold my gpu, but the game looked more then promissing...

If you know that this is a pitfall then don't buy steam sales. You can buy at Steam Sale prices at any time from third party key sites anyway.

I’m just going to go with games I started this year, but haven’t finished...Yet.

I realized in the games I finished in 2018 thread that I had at least as many I didn’t finish. So, in no particular order:

Black Mirror (the new one)
Divinity 2 -Developer’s Cut
Silence
State of Mind
Rogue Trooper Redux
Rime
Cursed Mountain
Lost Chronicles of Zerzura
Hitman 2
Die Young (only because it is almost out of EA, and I want to play it complete after the 4 Hours I put in)
Far-Out
The Free Ones
Life is Strange: Before the Storm
Lust for Darkness
Tartarus
Styx: Shards of Darkness
Frostpunk
Kona
Unforeseen Incidents

Games like Halo: Combat Evolved I have played many times through. The game is still a legend in my opinion.

Role playing games like Freelancer have a campaign but the game continues on indefinitely with players eventually reaching level 38

Links 2003 can be played perpetually as it comes with a course designer disk if the boxed courses get too boring

so the definition of unfinished is relative

loot at the casual idle games

I'm just going to stick to the bigger/notable ones, because this list will be far too long. Basically, when I get bored, I quit. Some games I've revisited and finished later. But that only rarely happens. Good ones on the other hand, I tend to revisit multiple times. Note the majority being open world games... its not easy to do open world well, I guess.

Far Cry 4 - after you cross the big bridge you notice the second part of the world is stale, empty and boring... in fact much like the first half of it. I facepalmed hard for wasting all that time unlocking stuff.
Far Cry 5 - see FC4, minus bridge. The worst execution of a religious cult in games ever. How to not make it credible in any possible way: Ubi got you covered. They can even reskin it to happy colorful version, see the upcoming spinoff... but wasn't it already so? FC5 is a game trying so hard to not get taken seriously, that it loses all appeal.
Far Cry 2 - its just too damn long, but I spent far more time in Africa than I did in 4/5. It also had the editor which had me for a few hundred hours at least. The story was just not important. The immersion was top notch though.
So, only FC3 had enough of a story to keep me hooked. And only because of Vaas really. The main character nearly had me drop the game on the intro movie, his dialogue and voice is absolutely terrible.

Watch Dogs - see FC4, minus bridge, add weakly implemented GTA elements and of course, Ubisoft's mandatory super annoying/dull protagonist.

SOMA - not my type of game. Could really appreciate the immersion and suspense, but the gameplay was just too bland and slow for my taste. I lasted 4-5 hours, of which 20 minutes were spent in a single corridor trying to avoid some shadow.

Assassins Creed: all except the first - it always starts well, and turns into repetitive boring crap not much later. Only the first AC had a gripping story and sufficient immersion to me. The rest... meh. Ezio was OK, but the world he played in was not even remotely as cool or well built as it was in the first. The first was also a bit more linear and it had that world map you could play on. Great elements IMO and in the first you also still had that ominous storyline of Desmond outside his Animus (and those little clues written on the wall and throughout your 'home', today we get games full of voice snippets as 'collectibles'). It had mystery the sequels lacked, and that kept me playing until the end. It also had balls in how it approached religion and showed so well how it was always merely a tool to exercise power. The whole game is full of references to that, from town criers to bits of text or even the background of the targets you killed. In the sequels, none of that really came back, a big shame - instead, we had Ezio who was mostly worried about himself and the ladies. Another striking difference is audio. AC:1 had stunning ambient sounds. All the little details when you walked past a marketplace or smithy, or out in the open world... I didn't see much of that in the sequels, at least not in the same way.

TES: Skyrim - Yeah. Sorry. But the main campaign and clunky gameplay is just horrible. World looks nice. This game has always been a walking simulator for me, with a lot of console commands to keep it fun. Mods don't really change this, its still clunky no matter what. I tried every edition, many mod setups... still same old. Still good for 100+ hours. For some reason I did finish Morrowind and Oblivion, I guess Skyrim is where the engine was getting in the way of good gameplay. The dumbed down RPG elements didn't help either.

Fallout 4: see Skyrim, minus the nice looking world, and minus proper ingame performance. At least you still dó get all the buggy quests, low quality textures, clipping issues, physics gone wild and flying/floating assets. Worst 40 bucks ever spent. When you have more fun building a settlement than playing the game, something's wrong.. and when you've built one settlement you've seen it all really.

MGSV: nobody finished this game, because it was never really finished. A big fat shame and horrible way to end a fantastic franchise.

OH yeah... Darkest Dungeon. But not because its not cool to play... its just one big torture run, at some point it gets ya :D

Divinity OS2 should be top priority :) It has the definitive edition now so its truly 100% patched and finished. Its not as long as you might think either. Or is that ye olde Divinity 2 you are talking about? That one has remained on my unfinished list for years... it felt like work.

Top of my head..
Fallout 3 - Bought it back when I had it on Xbox 360 and just couldn't get into it
Fallout New Vegas - Again couldn't get into it
Oblivion - Couldn't get into it
Skyrim - Couldn't get into it (Running trend that Bethesda games just don't interest me)
Doom 2016 - Got about half way but never got round to finishing it
Borderlands 1&2 - Got bored despite playing with friends
Bioshock 1&2 - Got half way and then just never got round to finishing it
Assassins creed Syndicate & Rouge - Wasn't interesting
STALKER - Stopped playing as I was interested in other games
Need For speed payback- Got bored despite being better than recent attempts of story driven NFS franchise
MGSV - Prefer linear playthrough like 1-3

Painful topic :D Anything that requires super human precision, I am a beat. Games I never finished (and watched a playthrough):

- Super Spy Hunter (NES) -> awesome soundtrack, never finished this game
- Kick Master (NES) -> got my ass kicked around the end
- Super Meat Boy - boy...I didn't get passed first few levels
- any side-scrolling-super-precision-game you can name :p
- Badldur's gate -> so long
- Neverwinter nights -> got lost in thousands of quests

That's on top of my head right now.

Only one (better known) comes to mind. One I will probably, and regrettably, never finish.

Fallout 1

I quite liked this game, but as I was nearing the end of it, windows died, and I had to format the HDD losing saves in the process. I just don't see myself starting it from scratch in this day and age, and with so many backlogged stuff on both Steam and PSN.

There's a lot of games I simply dropped and have no intention of touching ever again as I really disliked them. Some of those are Fallout 4, Skyrim, Far Cry 2, Assassins Creed 1...

Doom 2016.

Everyone hyped it up so much but the guns feel super weak and the "walk into room, get ambushed by spawned monsters" gets insanely old quickly.

There is only so many times I can punch things in the face before I start feeling like I am missing out on better games.

There are many that I haven't finished, but there is one unlikely candidate that I think will always stay on a backburner: Fallout 4.
Just can't get into the game. I hated Skyrim, but I still forced myself to play a few hours and get a feel for it. With FO4 - I just can't.
Bought it back in 2017 and so far after several attempts to like it, only managed to get past the first couple of missions (~6 hours of total playtime).
