Hi all,

I have a gaming question..

I have a great 30" montior DELL 3014 that has great colors and amazing resolution.

I won a 42LG TV that is FULL HD and i am wondering whether to play on a bigger screen and sacrifice resolution?

what do you guys suggest?

higher resolutuion gives you more visible space (not appicable for some games like starcraft and dota 2 where res scaling is disabled because it will give unfair advantage) but will require more gpu power to run smooth.

Personally, I could not go back to 1080p gaming and be happy. 1080p looks like shit to me after getting used to 1600p

This is my answer as well.

Full HD TV is good for watching movies, and so on. But a higher resolution is so good for gaming. IMHO

For me it would depend on the game. If I was gonna sit back and use a controller I would use the TV. If I was going to play any intense game or FPS I would sit upright close the that 1600p monitor and drool.

After trying the 2 modes i have to say that 2500x1600 looks much more CRISP and depending on the game the results are mindblowing...

The 1600p has better picture quality and is more future proof than the 1080p TV but you do need more horsepower to run it properly.

I haven't a chance to use 2560x1440/1600, but on my 50" plasma 1920x1080p games looks incredible. I mean even COD MW2 was like WHAT ...really...and it doesnt looks so good on 1920x1080 22' monitor. So resolution is not everything. Even i agree, that not all games benefit from bigger screen. RTS on 50"+= just supid. FPS or something like devil my cray, mortal combat, sonic, basketball etc. very nice.

Nope, it does not look better on your TV, you are just sitting further from the screen and you can't see all deviations on picture, your mind is playing trick's on you!? :)

not a trick. Screen/tv quality and technology behind that, better calibration etc. has an effect as well.

I wouldn't go talking for other people since their experiences may be different than yours.

I find that contrast on my 42" plasma is pretty amazing. Between that and how quickly the image refreshes, it's like having the quality of an IPS panel but without any ghosting at all. Games like Geometry Wars 2 really shows where plasmas shine since there are a lot of very dark and bright regions close to each other. Granted, you're also not going to be sitting 2 feet away from a TV, so pixel perfect reproduction isn't as important since you won't see it at a distance. The overall image quality for high-motion and high-contrast scenes is where they shine though.

I would say go with the 1600p if you have the GPU horsepower to power it, otherwise stick with 1080p.

His experience may be different and I respect it, in this type of stuff the personal view may be the only point of view, but that does not mean that is correct, like how its not correct in this situation!?

Some people cannot distinguish "studio quality" recording coming from 50$ speakers and 1000$ speakers but that does not mean that its the same on both of those speakers, but I'm agreeing with you, in this type of stuff, personal experience is the stuff on which you go by, but I just wanted to wide his view!? :)
