Hello!

I am going to build a computer for gaming, live streaming, importing video and using editing software. I've done a bit of research and compiled this list of parts:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dmVNtJ

I'm wondering if anyone who is experienced could look over my part list and advise me on it. Am I going overboard? Can some parts be downgraded? Does it all look good? Should I spend less in some areas and more in others?

Thank you in advance!!!

looks good - gpu is a pretty weak though... would definitely tro to upgrade to the 1060 if you can. Also you seem to have 2 CPU coolers.

Get rid of one of the cooling towers and upgrade to a 1060.

Also the red corsair fans are massively overpriced (plus they're pretty loud compared fans in that price range). Definitely spend the $60 on better hardware.

Finally - why not a 7600k?

How about Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB edition ?

Yes, I know I have 2... still deciding if I should get the one with red LEDs.

Also- how many fans do I need?

Thank you for the speedy reply!

That case comes with 2 decent fans (non-led) but you should definitely not pay more than about $15 per fan... $27 per fan is uber expensive... might just want to get a red LED strip and glue it to the top of the case... will look better be cheaper.

Plus you can always pick up fans later once you get a feel for the case/build and want to tweak it.

1060 6gb would suit you much better

I don't think it comes with fans... when I removed them from the list on pcpartpicker it gave me an alert that I needed CPU coolers.
Good idea to get LED's and add them on after.

I don't know if I should get regular fans or liquid.

Do I have to choose case fans vs cpu cooler?

I could go with a 7600k... I think I was choosing parts based on a few articles about building your own pc.

I have the same case- it comes with 2 fans (great case btw - really good choice)

thats my build with a white led strip at the top... its usb - super easy just glue it and plug it into the motherboard and you're done.

Love the glass window, to display all the sexy parts.

Oooh so I need a CPU cooler but can cut out the fans got it. What CPU cooler do you use?

i have an H105 but that's only because that 7820x is a heat monster.... the cooler you picked is probably the best $/money you can get, but if you really want to spend the $$ an AIO like an H100iv2 or an H105 will fit in the case no problems... complete overkill for that chip though.

I have one of those nzxt cases lying around. I personally wouldn't recommend it simply because it has no 5.25 bay access. Which you might find useful one day. Up to you though. A lot of people are fine with that.

If you can afford it, get a nvme ssd instead of the 850. You can get 960s fairly cheap. Since you're using that HDD, you can slim down the ssd space to 256, and use it as an OS drive.

5.25 access is useful for what exactly? I'm a n00b.

I'm not totally in love with that HDD, but yes my thought was to use the ssd for the OS. Any good recommendations for a nvme ssd?

An optical drive at least. Many people think even that's useless now..or deal with some cumbersome USB drive with more crappy cables to deal with.

Not I!

Plenty of good nvme's. You can't go wrong with any of them, when compared to HDD or even SATA ssds like the Samsung 850. They're all faster...even the low end ones. But the best value is a 960 evo. Here's a 250GB at $125.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...orebbr=1&cm_re=960_evo-_-20-147-593-_-Product

And 250 is enough for an OS drive. I use a 256 and I'm fine. The one issue to look out for is installing games directly from the Microsoft Store in Win 8/10. Since it places them on the C drive and it can fill up that way. But they don't have many games anyways and the rest of the normal apps are tiny. More than likely you're like me and are going to use Steam or GOG for games and you can relocate the install folders easily on your HDD.

Yes I use steam :)

Thank you very much!! I'm super excited to learn about nvme's.

I honestly don't see myself using an optical drive on this pc. I still have one on my laptop.

What case do you recommend?

I'm no expert on that. I've been using a Corsair Vengeance for awhile...and will just buy another if this one happens to break (which isn't likely either).

Then again, since you've got some Corsair parts yourself, maybe you'll like it too. It's more military themed like that Vengeance RAM.

I am going for pure aesthetic value with the case- the NZXT one is attractive with its glass window.

Yeah the Corsair Vengeance is sexy too. I'm sort of a badass chick so it would definitely jibe with my style :-D

Yeah, I like NZXT's designs.. like I said, I have that exact case. I just started regretting the lack of front panel bays. :D

I'll probably still use it sooner or later.

Good luck with your PC. You sound pretty set.

Thanks!! I will likely post updates, especially if I run into any big challenges that the mighty google can't help.

Does the Corsair one you recommended come with fans too?

not to derail this thread, but what is your build date? the 8600k will be out in 4 weeks for the ~same price and its 2 more cores and +50% more cache.

I'll +1 that. Note that the motherboards will most likely cost $100 more than the one in this build.

There's nothing wrong with your configuration, but here is my 2 cents:
When I build a computer, especially with a window, I try to have the parts look good together as well. You have a black case, a brown motherboard and an aluminium HSF. That is a smoking deal on that motherboard, but.... it brown. A CRYORIG H7 is about the same money, does a better job while being quieter, and has a nice looking black top. That and the Thermalright True Spirit 140 were reviewed here on TPU and did quite well.

I recommend the Seagate FireCuda Gaming SSHD 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" drive, with its 5 year warranty (and it happens to be on sale right now) over a SSD/ cheap HDD (those 2 year warranty HDD's make me shutter) setup. Unless you're going to be moving games on and off of the SSD, it will not help your gaming performance. An SSD will improve boot times and will make programs that run off of it run faster, but that's it. The FireCuda drive has an 8 GB (SSD like) cache where it stores often used programs, so boot times are improved as well. And that frees up $100 to spend somewhere else.

This deal ends at midnight today: You could save $30 by going with Seasonic FOCUS Plus Series SSR-550FX 550W 80+ Gold. 550 watts is plenty.

Here's my go to for WiFi at $39: ASUS PCE-AC55BT B1 AC1200 Dual-Band PCIe Wi-Fi Adapter Featuring Bluetooth 4.2 IEEE 802.11ac, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n PCI Express Up to 1.2Gbps Wireless Data Rates Bluetooth can be useful as well.

the z270 chipset and i5-7600k are the latest generation counterparts of what you've listed there. if it doesn't cost much more, get them instead. Also, the GPU is pretty weak compared to the rest of the system. a GTX 1060 would be very well worth the additional price.

IF you are really constrained by budget you are left with two options.

Experience Greatness now: downgrade to a non-k i5, and non-Z chipset, but get the gtx 1060, you'll generally get better FPS than with your current plan.

Experience greatness later, but better: Go with your current plan, but upgrade the 1050 Ti after a while. maybe a GTX 1070 or when the GTX 2xxx series comes.

In a couple of weeks I will build. Still need to order everything. Thank you for that tidbit, I wouldn't have known! I think I will wait for the 8600k.

The motherboard is pretty dark brown, I don't think it will be that noticeable. Judging from the pics the brown is not too noticeable. I will look at the other two you recommended.

Yes, that deal does end today on the Seasonic power supply. Looks good, thanks for finding that!!

The Wifi that comes with Bluetooth looks awesome as well, in case I go with wireless headphones.

Thank you!!!

The powersupply I was looking at is the same price.

EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply $79.99 with rebate.

The one recommended to me:

Seasonic FOCUS Plus Series SSR-550FX 550W 80+ Gold Intel ATX 12V Full Modular 120mm FDB Fan Compact 140 mm Size Power Supply $69.90 with rebate

Which one is better? o_O
