Of course it will.

I specifically picked the 4 GB version to test highlight differences between 4 GB and 8 GB (580). Both 570/580 with 8 GB would be too close in performance.

For NVIDIA the same comparison is 1060 3 GB and 1060 6 GB. The cards differ in shader count, just like 570<->580, it's just that NVIDIA named them the same

I just mean that RX 570 8Gb might beat GTX 1060 6Gb in some games, it might give a slightly different picture

Two different game engines in every way. Control’s Northlight engine is a new engine. UE4 has been around for awhile now and had plenty of optimization for the older architecture already take place.

Game seems mediocrity personified and graphically decent, nothing more. This is a game built from the ground up for the 1.3TF Xbox One remember.
"Seems" means you have not played it yourself correct? The Xbox One comment shows you also havent seen what it looks like maxed out @4K on a rig powerful enough to run it, and I dont mean screenshots or captures. Lastly, "built from the ground up"? Clearly we could veer off-topic all day with that gem.

Prettier textures doesn't hide the fact that under the hood, this was built to run on a netbook CPU. Where's the destructability, physics, impressive AI or persistence in the game-world? Kids might be satisfied with higher resolution textures and effects every year but the graphical fundamentals haven't improved much beyond those two areas .

Your opinions are your opinions but there not based on any real-world experience with GoW5 since it’s limited release 2 days ago. Criticizing a game/game engine for a lack of what YOU consider valid advancements in visual fidelity based solely on its minimum processor/low-end requirements is, in my opinion, mis-informed. We have strayed way off topic so you can PM me if you want to discuss further.

Definitely

Steam is 64.2 GB including Ultra Texture Pack

Whoops, we have a system that auto-selects the mfgr based on title, which apparently failed here. Fixed now.

10th September is not Monday, it's Tuesday. So is it out Monday 9th Sep or Tuesday 10th Sep? Either way great review, thanks! :toast:

After watching magnificent DF's review I have to ask though, did you use any minimum framerate cap for the review. This game has Dynamic resolution and it will drop resolution to maintain that minimum desired resolution. And another interesting bit on DF's review was that there's settings for async compute for AMD but not for Nvidia(under the advanced settings). Other than that, DF reviewed MS store version, which does not have Full Screen option. Very much glad to see Steam version have that. Well there is Full screen option on ms store version, but it is not the exclusive Fullscreen. Is the steam version the same?

The reason why I questioned nVidia's "recommendation" to use the old WHQL and not the currently available latest WHQL is because there is no reason why my GTX 1080Ti rig, scores 20% higher @4K then the test system used. Im rocking a 7700K whereas the test system is rocking a 9900K which isnt as important @4K because you are essentially 100% GPU bound in this benchmark at that resolution. The only other variable is the drivers, I am rocking the latest WHQL whereas the test system isnt. If my settings dont mimic the test system settings, let me know W!zzard, purely out of curiosity.

I was going to get the Steam version later but holy crap you can get the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on special for just 2 bucks for 2 months that includes Gears 5 Ultimate and you can play it now instead of waiting until the 9th.

Rare for Nvidia to miss a release date with an optimized driver. If this is the worst case, so be it. I would be curious to see if the game ready driver improves the situation at all. Pretty odd to see the 2070 Super so far behind the 1080 Ti, especially on a DX12 game. Are there any plans to retest the Nvidia cards on Monday, @W1zzard ?

Early access dates aren't launch dates, nvidia will still be "on time" when their driver launches on tuesday.

would have preferred to see pascal benched on 436.15 while turing was on 431.68,

The reason 431.68 was recommended by NV is because of Turing specific issues with the 436 drivers that result in performance loss(resource loader leak) and visual glitches.
Pascal should have been benched on 436.15 because it includes a partial crash fix and performance improvements for GOW4 and 5 so as only Turing would need the actual re-bench on tuesday.

This game does not as yet have Async Compute enabled on Geforce gpu's either.

this game sure is not for potato system, recomended for best experience minimum run in 1080p & dx12 only, maybe we still can push to play in dx10, and gaming on 720p just maybe, worth a try, i consider buying it:)

That makes it a little clearer now, it would be nice to see the devs eventually add in mGPU support like they did in GoW 4 but I am fully aware there are people still experiencing crashes in GoW 4 on nVidia hardware which is also an issue in GoW 5 so that needs to get straightened out first for those still affected by what seems to be a 2 year old issue.

Weird opinion to have, I am assuming you have the game and play it with one of the cards that are performing oddly? No official GRD’s from nVidia yet either, this is hardly how performance will be by Monday for those 2-3 cards that are exhibiting strange performance. Lastly, the game is the most well optimized, best looking UE4 game released on PC yet and it isn’t even “Officially” available till Monday.
ok fine but its still extremely odd that the 3gb 1060 is winning at 4k over the 6gb. the 1660 should be stomping them both, not really complaining if the 1060 stays faster

Definitely am eager for the re-test once the drivers drop Tuesday.

The 1080p results in this review are weird i must say. They do not line up with results of other benchmarks, while higher resolution results do line up. And it's not the driver version either, because results are all over the place for some of the both vendors cards, AMD and NV alike, i.e. RX570, 1660, 1060 etc. I don't know what's that about.

Seems that WCCFtech tested with driver 436.30....results are still odd from what I can see in regards to the 1060/1660. If that is in fact the updated GR driver that was used by WCCFTech, the 1660 is still losing to the 1060 across all 3 resolutions and that should not be the case. I try to not pay attention to performance analysis before updated drivers/optimizations/official release date has occured but this is definitely not adding up. What also concerns me is any potential performance difference between the Microsoft store version and the Steam version due to the Steam version being the only one that has the option of using exclusive fullscreen. Anyway, sure we will all know soon enough.

Steam version becomes playable in an hour and fifteen minutes (9PM EST). I understand official release isn’t till tomorrow but, playing devils advocate, it’s Gears of War, probably the most publicized/marketed video game release this month...where are the GRD’s?

(Just to re-iterate, it doesn’t affect me at all, I've been playing since last Thursday night. Still, I wouldn’t blame those who may get a little frustrated.)

Edit: The guy streaming on the Steam page for the game just said 9PM EST as well.

I'm talking about the driver release.
It could be before or after noon.
