Following on from the launch of its X1950XT AGP 8X product, the Taiwanese graphics card company Info-Tek released today its GECUBE X1950XT X series for the PCI-Express 16X lane. The GECUBE X1950XT X series PCI-E also uses the ATI Radeon R580+(90nm) chip matched with 512MB of GDDR3 memory. The card is equipped with the company's proprietary Turbo Extreme Silent Fan, which is extremely quiet (18db when running in 3D mode). The GECUBE 1950XT X series is clocked at 628MHz core and supports the latest Shader Model 3.0 architecture. It also has 48 pixel pipelines, support for High Definition Content Protection (HDCP), Blu-ray, HD DVD, 1080i, and HDTV's high definition video output. This product has been certified by Windows Vista Premium WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs), so you'll run the 3D Aero interface easily.

cheaper? I didn't read anything about the price yet.

With 512 GDDR3, the OC'd performance will be really close to the X1950XTX... But the question indeed is how much $$$ ???

im waiting for pci-e 2.0 when we could possibly see dx 10 cards that would oversaturate the bandwidth of an agp slot which current gen cards don't and seeing how vista and dx 10 seem to be hitting some ruff times i see the early dx10 cards being junk altho they are impressive in there own respect once the technology is given time to break in it will be much better then i will sink 2K into building a dx 10 system

so right now the x1950 xt agp wouldn't be a bad deal for say 250-300 bucks and neither would this card if you currently own an older pci-e system say 939 skt

would be nice if Ge Cube would actually bring to market these so called releases

So that aint a bargain then? ;)

I always thought the 5200 series were an embarassment for nvidia... yet, people still bought them. ?????? The 5200 has to rate near the top for "all-time worst performance/dollar ratio". If you pay more then $30 for a 5200, then you are paying to much.

Why buy a DirectX 9 video card with the cheaper DirectX 10 cards on the horizon? I do not plan on using Windows Vista for a while, so DirectX 10 means nothing to me. I really hate how Microsoft is making DirectX 10 a VISTA ONLY option... once again trying to FORCE consumers to buy their product... a product that currently offers lower performance for gaming when compared to Windows XP.

I sure hope game developers eventually support Linux 100% because I would like to have other options for a gaming PC operating system. :)

As for this new card from GeCube... it might still be a bit to pricey for me. But, I will be looking forward to the reviews and benchmarks. :)

Seconded!. Linux games would seal the deal for me. With all the advancements in XGL, package managers, and wireless networking improvements, ubuntu is really catching my attention. The lack of native games is an issue, and the fact that emulation for directx based games is hit or miss is keeping me away from making a permanant switch.

As far as this agp business goes, I would have kept using my old AV8 had I known they would continue to support AGP in this way, I'm actually surprised.

The FX5200 was pretty much the only reasonable option available for PCI for the longest time, which meant that Best Buy and placed like that would jack up the prices since they were the only PCI cards on their shelves and people would pay because that was the only option they felt they had.

As for the DX10 on XP, it isn't possible, or at least Microsoft says it isn't, and they actually backed that up with some evidence this time. So while it might look like DX10 on Vista only is just a way for Microsoft to force people into Vista, it really isn't. Microsoft just couldn't get DX10 to work with XP, though I am sure some clever hackers will get it working eventually, especially with Microsoft outlining the problem for them, Microsoft just doesn't care enough to continue trying.

Most of the Vista performance problems can be attributed to driver, or lack there of. As the video card drivers improve for Vista the performance should too. From what I have seen Vista is usually with 10FPS of XP already.

Hey newtekie1, those were some great points you brought up.

The 5200 might be one of the most powerful PCI cards available... on the other hand, if you need a PCI card for any kind of gaming then it is probably time to buy a new system. :(

I did forgot about the fact that DirectX 10 was "incompatible" with Windows XP. Well, to be honest I am not sure if I "forgot" or simply rolled my eyes and laughed... because Microsoft simply did not want to invest any extra time and money to get some form of DirectX 10 working with XP. I hope you are right about some hacker-type person getting it to work with XP!! :)

I agree that as the Windows Vista drivers improve, so will the performance... but I still doubt that the performance under Vista will ever beat XP... at least not for several years. Heck, it would not surprise me if games performed better under Windows 2000, when compared to XP or Vista.

Game do not perform better in Windows 2000 vs XP or Vista.

I really don't see the point of releasing more 1950 of any kind. There are already a zillion choices to get, and not only that, you can't even buy these two cards yet. So much for a release.

I had to do a quadruple take to make sure my eyes werent deceiving me. I saw the XT X and then the Gddr3 and about shit my pants....then I realized what it was. Id be pissed if I bought this based on a confusing branding idea.

ati ps3 support is closer the ps4 support then most people realise, unlike nvidias ps3 support its VERY programable, allowing pretty much anything to be run thru the gpu, just requiers the programing be done to support it.

and gddr4 isnt that great, honestly, my card(x1900xt/xtx@700/1600) beets my buddys x1950xtx in real games, i dont got 3d benchmarks to use but hes even impressed, wishing he had gone with the x1900xt/xtx insted of x1950xtx due to price and perf, also ease of overclocking ;)

sure my cards not as fast as the 8800 seirse, but guess what, the drivers for my card dont suck eather :p

and this card will fill a niche, im sure, much like the 5200 and 9200 cards did/do. (9200se kills 5200 any day, saddly....lol)

im not knocking the card, just the way they're trying to make it look like xtx on the box(its an xt), which will fool a lot of people (less pc savvy than us) into thinking it is the top model

and while i've not had any gaming issues (yet), yes, the drivers suck, theres entire sections of the t.v out section missing (theyre there on my friends 7 series)and the picture quality thru s-vid is crap, luckily i kept my x1800 for my other rig:)

The drivers for the 7 series aren't much better, nVidia driver department overall isn't getting any points in my book, they need to get their act together. We haven't had proper video overlay controls since back in the 8X driver series days. They have started to just disable the things they can't get working instead of actually attempting to fix them, it doesn't help that we haven't seen a driver update since November either.
