The 7900GT will cost around 329€ or $299 US Dollars. This puts the card spot on the price point of the old 7800GT. The Geforce 7900 GTX 512 will cost a mere 549€s. I feel sorry for all the people who spend over $700 US Dollars on their 7800GTX 512 not 2 months ago. There are rumors out there that the card may only have 24 pipelines as well, but lets hope not. Apparently NVIDIA will have some 7900GTX 512 to ship on the day of the announcement. The 7900GT will follow a few weeks later, if not on the same day. Maybe I will be able to get a cheap 7800 GTX as it will be slower than the 7900GT and thus should cost less.

Hey Dark,
I wish your statement of finding a 7800GTX cheap would be right, but I doubt it. The reason is bc Nvidia is trying to do the same thing that ATI did with its x1800 series when the x1900 series came out. That is get rid of the 7800 series. As seen with the x1800 series they are still highly priced and not worth it. The same with the 7800GTX will prob. happen. But there is some good news. As you could SLI together 2 different cards which is a nice feature so why not get a 7900GT if it does size up against the 7800GTX.

yes, I agree.

Posted the same thoughts here: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpost.php?p=67757&postcount=3

2 days before theINQ mentioned that the 7800GT/GTX is EOL...

still I am hoping that prices on Ebay for 7800GTXs will fall thru the floor. I have one, and I want another.

I just did not think that it would be so cheap..as the X1900 cards are more expensive....
cheers

I don't think that would be compatible with SLI. When they say different cards they meant different series of the 7800GT/GTX not a GT and GTX in SLI, that won't work. I would shoot for 2x7900GT which should give the X1900XTX a good run for its performance and price as well.

This is going to be funny

There will not be a larger audience buying 7900s when they come out. A lot of people have purchased x1900 series. When some jump ship to sell their x1900 for a 7900 they be hard press to find a buyer because it won't sell :rockout: :toast:

Because you will either want to upgrade from a older VC or want 2 of them for crossfire. Which has not matured yet and they just started to remove the dongle on the less expensive versions.

That's what you get for being a sellout :slap:

I hate to contradict you, but...wasnt there an article just a couple days ago on how Nvidia was shipping their last G70 cores? that would make 7800GT/GTX alot harder to get, and hence, more EXPENSIVE. Glad to have my X850XT! :rockout:

the reason they are gonna not be overpriced is cos they aint gonna perfrom that well i think.. praps no better than the 512 7800 they couldnt produce in any numbers.. which is why that one went so high in price.. course if thats true the 7800s aint gonna drop so much in price as might be expected.. from what i read they cant get the cores fast enough to take over top spot with the new cards..

yes, but I hope that the price for used 7800GTXs is going to drop under the price for 7900GTs. But I fear that this is not going to happen...

299 is a good price for the 7900GT, it is a high end card, and if 299 is the price on release, i guess in a few months we are going to see them going for 250, which is mid high range price, considering that ATI is charging around 400 for the X1800XL which would probobly be reduced to 350-300 when the X1900XT will be more wide spread,

also gives me a bit of hope, latly ati and nvidia have been releasing a 500-600 buck card every 3 months, but theres been no new 150-250 buck cards since the GT/GTO´s and the 6800GS, which were basicly left over 6800 and X800 chips. and with the X800 having no HDR or PS 3.0 and the 6800 not being fully compatible with SM 3.0. unless you spent 500 bucks, you couldnt play a game with full quality.

a cheaper card might force you to play at a lower resolution, but in this case, those arent features that get turn on when yo move down from 1600x1200 to 1024x768, if the card dosnt have it, you could play at 640x480 but the features would still be missing.

What I find interesting is that it seems that the price of the 7800gts are slightly going down due to Rebates offered from the manufacturers. It seems that they want to get rid of this GPU so they can sell the 7900s. You could grab them for about 250 these days and we might even see more rebates to get rid of these.
