I dunno what to think about this card really, i was hoping for something at least 20-25% faster in all scenario's, where i think this things going to fall over with heavy anti aliasing (i notice they didnt show any results with AA turned on) due to the 16 rops / 256 bit bus combo, but if the price is right, i may well get one

Well, the cooler (curvy) does resemble the g92 GTS (boxy).

The 9800GTX is simply a refresh/die shrink, that's all. Everyone was expecting more, and Nvidia was hyping it, but it's not new architecture like when the 88xx's came out.

In truth, this round of cards should have been called the 89xx series, and the NEXT gen would be new architecture and be the true 98xx series.

Well, ATI launched the HD3XXX series, and they had to keep up... Truth be told, I think nVidia needs to take a page from ATI and allow a dual-GPU card to be launched. (unless they got one I'm not aware of)

The only real difference to me in performance is the clock rate.

8800 GTS 650/1625/1800
9800 GTX 675/1688/2200

The 9800GTX is clocked higher then the 8800 GTS. If the 9800 was clocked similar to the GTS then I would agree that performance has improved but to, it hasn't. I can only assume the GTS would perform similarly to the 9800 at the same OC.

yea but the .8NS ram promises even a higher OC than the 8800GTS does, and can every GTS do 2200mhz to begin with, if its price within 100-150 of the GTS its a great buy and might even give the 3870X2 a run for its money seeing how faster over the Ultra it is

9800GTX = 8800GTS 512MB that is good for voltmodders thanks to its 6 phases avaliable. HOWEVER, the price tag is awful. Those extra phases are useless however, if you want to clock the 8800GTS 512MB to 9800GTX level perf...

I think I might have to save up and try to buy a new board and a 4870 when it comes out

Nvidia is still on schudles for release, they never bring forth there newest line in the spring, watch Q3 or early Q4 to get your minds blown.

No disappointment here. It performed as expected, like an overclocked 8800GTS(G92), which is essentially what it is. People get way to hung up on the name. No, it really isn't deserving of the 9800 name, but then again the 3870 isn't deserving of the 3800 name, but ATi moved to the next level so nVidia has to do the same to stay even in marketing.

I agree, the G92 cards should have been called 8900 and not 9800, but I really don't care what the name is as long as the thing performans and it does just that.

As for the price point, I think $350 is a decent MSRP considering the 8800GTS(G92) MSRP is only $50 less. I think the improvements over the 8800GTS are worth $50.

the only time other time Nvidia did this was Geforce 7 over 6, it wasnt a leap frog at all in terms of anything and could have easily been called 6900, as the core was called NV47 to begin with. Nvidia does this so they can build there next big thing, if i was you i wouldnt count on ATI right now

I really want you to explain yourself here. You are saying this isn't worth $50 over a 8800GTS 512MB?

And what part of ATi's line up is even worth considering right now? In terms of Priceerformance nVidia has them beat in every market(with maybe the except of the low end, I haven't been paying attention to prices there).

Wonder how it compares to the factory OC'ed variants of the 8800 GTS 512M from EVGA / BFG / XFX such as 'Superclocked', OC2, and XXX edition respectively. Only difference is the second gold-finger = tri-SLI. My opinion: This does not deserve to be called a GTX, or a flagship card for that matter. Actually with GeForce 9 series, it seems like NVidia wants to redefine what high-end graphics is all about. It's no more the single monster card any more, it's bunch of the same old technology, only quantitatively more, not qualitatively.....multi GPU

The only potential i see is that it can be Highly OCed more then an 8800GTS 512mb because of its two PCI-E 6 Pin to provide more juice, also Triple-SLI(for those 4 people that own that much money)
