Formula, what rabit are you using? I can't change the mem size with 2.2, do I need a beta or is it just something I'm overlooking? I want to try kett first optimized bios:)

Just noticed rabit wouldn't let me change the mem ref rate 0x48 to 0x44 which is my jetways defualt. I'm going to try setting a profile with atitools and see if it fixes it when windows loads. I'm thinking rabits not the thing to be using but I can't hex edit.

Yep. 2.2.1

Sometimes I have to do realtime quick and then shut it off before it, or the voltage, light up to be able to change. I wouldn't bother with any of his current Version 1.0+ until HE releases a 256mb. They just aren't TUNED for the 256. I tried one and went all scribby scramble on me :) Thank goose I know the flash command by heart, had to flash it blindly (too lazy to install PCI lol)

To the layman, the old saying "If it isn't broke, don't fix it." applies. But we're not layman, so this is more fitting "If it isn't broke, tweak it!"

Who needs water cooling! If you're computer is too loud, thats what music is for :)

@ saberliner: thanks for the suggestion :D
I'd reply with a PM but I can't seem to get it to send to you.. w/e though

Maybe rabit would be useful for editing bios's? I might be wrong though, since I don't make my own bioses :laugh:

Well so far so good on using ATI Tool to OC without using it's 3d window/artifact scanner. Using aquamark and 3dmark's 05 and 06 I'm stable up to 621/770 ATM. CCC says I'm good for 621/796...but I'm gonna play around at this for a bit and see if I can get that core to go up a little more and stay stable.

Off topic:

I just recieved the Corsair XMS Ram Cooling fan from Newegg I purchased for $25. And I gotta say it works very well. Easy to attach, and is pretty stable, just attaches over the ram lock tabs. 3 x 40mm fans (this thing is like 3" tall, so there's ~ 1" gap between my memory and fans) are actually pretty damn silent.

So for the stats, my new G.Skill ddr2 800 kit was running ~40c idle and ~53c load (I have my temp diod for my case between memory and heatsink). Now I'm running ~30c idle and ~35c load! Now that's a difference that could save people burning up their memory! On top of that, this means a little bit cooler ambient temperature also. Helluva in-case-shit investment if you ask me.

My memory is also OC'd to DDR2 960 @ 2.25v, 4-4-4-12 cr2 timings.

Just figured I was so impressed I had to put it out there...it does actually make a difference!

Has anyone messed around with the vRAM timings?

My highest stable OC for the vRAM is 722 MHz. I tightened the timings with the patched ATI Tool and got a 10% increase in frame rates on the F.E.A.R. benchmark. IE minimum FPS went from 37 to 41.

I also found that GPU clock doesn't make much difference. For example, I got the same performance at 621/722 that I did with 654/722.....

Catalyst control Center was able to boost my memory to 786 stable but the timings were loose as hell. Performance was actually worse than stock clocks by about 2%.

vRAM timings made a big improvement for me.

Read the thread Tony. Aside from core voltage and fan speed, the only thing we CAN mess with is RAM timings. Kets been doing it extensively for the 512mb cards and has made some interesting findings.

Saber, RaBIT 2.2.1 edits 1950's BIOS, but it's not very usefull I'm finding. I mod some ram timings, flash it, and some are 1number off, makes no sense.

A note for any Xpertvision \ Palit 1950 Pro owner; The cards are freaks of nature, and I'm as certain as I can be that something has been done to the BIOS of these cards to cripple their memory OCs.

Standard 1950 Pro BIOS mem timings:

9-12-8-10-8-10 refresh rate: in the region of 0x46, cycle time: 0x2C

Xpertvision \ Palit mem timings:

13-11-9-12-7-15 refresh rate: 0x21 (older version BIOS 0x10 :eek: ) cycle time: 0x25

Whats especially interesting is the CAS latency of 13, this is a reserved latency and is specifically advised by Samsungs .pdf file for their DDR3 memory to NOT be used. Stock, OCd, adjusted memory timings, it makes little difference to these cards. The fastest I got was 810MHz on 1.1ns memory rated for 900MHz. Nomatter what your issue may be with either the Xpertvision or Palit X1950 Pro cards, I strongly advise you contact the manufacturer and harrass them to death for a stable, properly working BIOS for the card. I say this because looking on both Palit and Xpertvision websites, neither company list a X1950 Pro card as passing CE or FCC quality standards, which is very worrying. Lastly its also worth mentioning that the Palit and Xpertvision X1950 Pro cards are absolutely identical from PCB layout and cooling to the BIOS. So you may want to harass both manufacturers for a proper working BIOS. The first to manage to obtain a proper working BIOS, obviously be sure to post it here :cool:

For anyone interested, the BIOS on these cards carry a subvendor ID for Grammagraphx, inc.

No it wont make a difference. You can likely tighten it to 0x2C with no impacting results.

Al, did you ever look at what memory you have on your card, so I can know whats on mine heh.

So no gain in performance from making the refresh lower? I might as well try CAS 9. RaBIT realtime (as we know is bad juju) makes the Spaced Invaders come if I change it from 11. But when I load the BIOS from the card (the option under 'open') it loads up 9 first.

Do you think it's a coincidence, or RaBIT flipping out, that a 1900GT's memory timings are the EXACT same as what I moded my 1950 Pro to? The refresh rates, the latencies are all identical...

Im pretty sure it is samsung 1.2ns, I dont really want to take it out as its abit of a mission due to my water block! But I think I remember looking and seeing that, might even be 1.1ns

Space invaders only happens to me when I tried to flash to your tampered bios, was easily flashed back tho ;)

Also, the PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) for the Palit and Xpertvision cards are quite different from others, this can be the result of the redesigned PCB, and \ or also a attempt at limiting memory OC, unfortunately for Palit \ Xpertvision, this different PLL setting is also likely responsible for the cards instability.

Don't feel bad, I got the same thing lol Put the Floppy in, and blind-flashed my default lol

Either 1.2 or 1.1, should take a CAS of 8, yea?
I'm currently running:
tCL = 11
tRCDR = 10
tRCDW = 6
tRP = 9
tRRD = 9
tR2W = 13
tRR = 3B
tRFC = 20

My stock timings show:
tCL = 9
tRCDR = 12
tRCDW = 8
tRP = 10
tRRD = 8
tR2W = 10
tRR = 44
tRFC = 2C

Think I should change tCL, tRRD and tR2W to the lower stock timings? Reflashing of course, not soft-timed.

Can people post their tr2w timings? I'm curious about them, especially as they have a large impact on stability.
