I agree my temps (that i can monitor) don't go above 50c - any idea what is causing the problem? voltage?

Yea it's either voltage, or the temperature of the other components. I know temp isn't the limit on the core, as a guy I know is running water cooling and can't OC past 665 on the core.

However, temps may be holding me back on the memory, as I used to run 823 MHz, but I've recently had to turn it down to 810. I'm going to see how it runs at 816.75 (our memory OCs at either 27 MHz, 13.5, or 6.75, and possibly 3.375)

Its heat on other components as some folk have shown. Fortunately my xpertvision has been redesigned to work around all known bugs, just sucks the first one was such a duffer. Hopefully the 2nd one will work out the box unlike the first one..

Hey guys you noticed that you only have to unlock Overdrive once , even when I put it in my other system it was still unlocked.Does it mod something in the BIOS or what when you unlock. And maybe you need to unlock both cards one at a time? With one card ATT will clock like crazy then with 2 it wont even clock on, well it does clock it up but the slider resets , overdrive shows it is being applied though.

Why cant you clock the memory? Have you tried the newest atitool and setting it to driver level clocking?

Yea but it gives me some artifacts as soon i touch the memory, using the latest ATi Tool beta, right now its clocked at 627/695.

On the X1000 overclocking options i got set Use Driver Level OC, thats correct right ? or i have to do something more ?

Have you tried just raising the memory manually in stages and scanning instead of letting atitool do it? Yes that is right with the setting you have for driver level oc

Yea, thats what i do, increments of 27Mhz but even at 727 it gives me artifacts, i guess thats the top of the memory, bad luck :( , but i wonder if i could push up a bit more the core speed with a modified bios.

i dont get this - if its not temp related how come the waterblock guy can o/c higher than us?? am i missing something?

He can OC 4.5 Mhz over me.....negligible. The difference is probably due to manufacturing inconsistencies, or maybe some other reason that I haven't thought of. I may have been one of the lucky ones, as my OC is higher than most that I've seen. Even HIS guys, which have the best cooling, even better than the aftermarket HSs. The IceQ3 is essentially an aftermarket fan, as it's made by Arctic for HIS.

http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894 that may help. somewhere in that database is also a help topic where you can obtain a updated BIOS from ATI that addresses display issues on 1950 series cards.

and w00t, my new 1950Pro just arrived, got samsung memory on it this time and no dodgy backplate, so hers hoping thats a good omen :D

Ok, the new card is in, running fine so far in desktop work, and stays nice an cool too @ 37c. Only VERY minor grumble is this card doesnt use rubycon caps. Time to install an fire up 3dmark.

ed- 1st run results, a full 126pts or so better than stock results with the other 1950Pro, proves what a POS the other one was.

Running slightly under stock also ;) unless that is what they are set to run @ out the box? Glad you have a replacement now though :) you can get it run in then fiddle & clock, then bench with '06 and add yourself to the comp :D

Nah, my card runs exact ATi reference clocks, not rounded clocks that most manufacturers are using.

Hey Ketxxx, which Samsung chips do you have out of these? I have the 1.4ns chips on my HIS, Sapphire bastards are lucky to have the 1.2ns (800 MHz chips)
http://www.samsung.com/Products/Sem.../GDDR3SDRAM/256Mbit/K4J55323QG/K4J55323QG.htm

BTW have you had time to check out my BIOS yet?

Also, what software do you use to edit the BIOS? I would like to have a look at mine, just for practice :)

None of the chips in that link, from what I can tell my card has 1.1ns Samsung. I dont use any software to edit if you mean easy GUI interface style, its hex editing. BIOS' I havent forgotten about, but I'm crazy busy with driver writing & testing, learning games programming, advanced physics etc. atm

If I remember it right, some time ago Ketxx wanted to see a thermal image of X1950 Pro running - here is one of the 25 that I've got. The hottest POS is that double-decker Pulse chip, even after I put a heatsink on it... Also South Bridge and MOSFETs are running hot.
Have to go, if anybody wants, can send more tomorrow.

Thats one toasty mofo.. glad my xpertvision has a redesigned PCB :p however all is not as it seems. My replacement, unless it has an odd relation to my PCI-E frequency (which I will check soon) cant have its ROM chip erased and flashed. I'd put dibs on some kind of software lock if not PCI-E frequency related.

FYI a 105MHz PCI-E frequency appears to be the most stable for operation \ OCing.

For curiosity, whats ppls temps for their 1950Pros idle and under load? Screenie of ATITool 0.27 would be helpful  Heres mine with my own customised cooling design. Ignore the fan speed, my custom cooler runs from a 3pin connection on the mobo.
