Getting a new harddrive, help me get the best!

Alright I have a really old Western Dig. 250gb. I dont even know the cache on it all I know is its atleast 3 years old and I can feel it dieing as its been showing signs of failure of the late.. So im going to get a new one. I've heard good things about the Seagate 7200.10 line of drives, them being faster than the WD Raptors. I was also wondering if it was worth getting the "Perpendicular Recording Technology" Seagate drive or the standard one. Storage isnt an issue tho.. I know the PRT one is 320gb but if it makes it faster in anyway I will spend more cash on it.

If you can get the single platter 320Gb that would be my recommendation. Much better performance! I have a 500Gb w/ Perpendicular Recording Technology and compared to my 500Gb Westy so much quicker.

get a samsung f1 drive if you can.. but they come in 750gb and 1 tb flavours.. otherwise a seagate with perpendicular recording would be your best bet for a 7200 rpm drive.

You wont be dissapointed with the Seagate 7200.11. Very fast efficeint drives. I put a 250GB in the wifes system, runs very well.

+1 for the F1's though great drives.

Caviars are usually the cheapest of all 7200 rpm drives. I heard the 320 gb on newegg is only $70. Also I agree with PanchoMan's lin.=k.

If you can't afford those, the WD Caviar SE16s rock.

There are a lot of options, although the 32MB cache ones are the best. You can still buy a cheap 500MB, 16MB cache within your price range.
