This should arrive tomorrow http://www.ebuyer.com/product/165288 :rockout: I watch alot of films with my GF as well as gaming so this should be good enough.

Nice step up from my 1280x1024 CRT and I'm genuinely excited , so how do you think my GTX 275 will handle it for gaming?
Also, I need a DVI-D cable to connect it to my graphics card, is this suitable http://www.ebuyer.com/product/31424

As always, thanks for any help guys.

Congrats.. should be a nice screen. You GPU will still handle games at that resolution but obviously you can expect to see a performance hit. IMO it will be worth it anyway.

The cable should work well.

I'm taking it that if i turn settings down on crysis and the like it should still handle them though, is that correct or too much to ask? :)

All games go at playable framerate as long as you turn down the eyecandy enough.

That card is still pretty darn capable. What are the games you're playing most?

It's more a case of what don't I play :) At the moment I have Dirt 2, BFBC2, DAO,GOW,GTA IV,Prototype,Res Evil 5, Risen,Stalker SOC and my GF just plays WOW. TBH though I play with silly amounts of AA at the moment with good frame rates so obviously I'm hoping that gives me good headroom for going up to the higher res with more conservative levels of AA. All apart from Crysis, BFBC2 and probably GTA IV of course.

:) As I've only got back into PC gaming fairly recently I have alot of older titles that I'm working my way through (just finished Bioshock&Bioshock 2- both were awesome) so when the time comes to play more bang up to date titles I will probably upgrade my video card. Would my q6600 @3.77ghz (yes i managed to get a little bit more out of it) significantly push one of the HD5xxx series cards enough? I'm thinking only a HD5870 or HD5890 would be a significant upgrade from my GTX 275, or would an overclocked HD5850 still wipe the floor with my 275?

Hell, I'd think an HD4850 should be good enough for damn near anything (700 MHz core!! WTF could you ever need that for!!!!), anyways I've found out that my FX5600 (I know, but I need a new hard drive at the mo) really dislikes filtering (of any kind), so lowering textures could very well not be the best option for performance (as if they're close enough to each other).

if you running a single 5k card your good and a stock 5850 is about 15% faster then a 285 and usually 20-25% faster then a 275 or 280. overclock the 5850 to 5870 clocks and your looking at around 35-40% improvement but a 5850 @ 5870 clocks is only 3% slower in most games thats literally 1-2fps difference when both are at same clocks. and oh yea a q6600 at that speed your good :toast: the only game my 940be cant push is crysis .... cause it only uses 2 cores and at 3.4ghz my dual 5850s are starved for cpu speed single 5850 with a q6600 at that speed your looking at,.. 30-35fps avg at very high 1920x1200 2xAA-4xAA with a 5850 overclocked

running crysis at just High settings your looking at 40fps average 1920x1200 2xAA

unless you have too much money on your hands, I think I'd skip this generation of videocards allthogether, true a 5850 would probs increase perfomance by a nice amount, but it's not exactly a cheap videocard. It's still 250 quid you could keep in your pocket.

The reason i wouldnt upgrade, is your current vidcard will play most games at very acceptable framerates.
Upgrading to a 5850 for dx11 does not seem that useful, as most reviews show that the 5xxx series take quite the performance hit when playing dx11 games. So I'd hold out for a 6xxx or next generation Nvidia (with better performance/watt i hope).

Just my opinion though.

PS i have a 22inch LG monitor since a couple of months and absolutely loving it :)

last i knew in Dirt2 as far as DX11 went the games average dropped sure but guess what stayed the same? minimum the frame rate that matters... as far as metro 2033 goes its been proven it uses only 2 cores and DX11 runs fine its the Depth of Field they have that tanks the frame rate and i do believe Battleforge with DX11 enabled showes a HUGE improvement fact is a 5850 overclocked will show him a 30-40% improvement not saying go buy it right now but since an overclocked 5850 beat out my 4870x2 in DX9 and DX10 games and adds low power and extra effects its a nice upgrade most of the games ive noticed that struggled with a 5850 9/10 the game didny USE 99% of the gpu so example crysis at 3.4ghz it uses 90% of the gpu single card with dual cards i only use 55% of each. as im cpu limited eitherway you seem to forget hes jumping from 1280x1024 to 1920x1080 or 1200 or w/e that 275 will offer playable frame rates yes but a 5850 overclocked will and could if taken far enough be upwards of 50% faster i say if hes thinking of getting a new gpu grab the monitor first see if the 275 offers the performance he wants if it dosent then upgrade :toast: that simple

TBH, I'm not sure if i am happy or not :ohwell:, recieved it at 4pm today and haven't had much time to fiddle with it but it appears to ghost :shadedshu Tried it with a few different games and it seems to ghost on certain objects. Could this be because I have come from a CRT or does callibration help? Size takes some getting used to but it's bloody wide :laugh:No dead pixels which is good and nice clear static images and resolution is as advertised , just not happy with it in motion which is where it counts for gaming. Also framerates are good, better than I expected but that doesn't matter if I'm not happy with the fast moving images does it

Any help or advice anyone?

Hmm it's a TFT, so motion should be fine; they get criticised for lower contrast and colour palette, but that's about it. My first LCD in 2003 was noticeably *better* compared to the CRT it was replacing, which had some pretty rubbish phosphor image over-persistence and low brightness.

There may be some trick contrast booster feature turned on - some of them are rubbish like this.
