Ok ive been running on agp for a few years now and just want to get the last bit of life out of it before i make the pci-e switchover. I've been looking at the Sapphire x1950Pro 512mb and the BFG 7800GS 256mb. I know the sapphire basically pwns it on everything but the thing that worries me is ive read many stories about the power requirements for the x1950pro so just wondering will my PSU run it ok cos if it cant then i think i'll just get the 7800. Thanks.

Its borderline IMO. Good as the Liberty 400 is, sapphire recommend 450w with 30A on the 12v rail.

Yeah, right on the limit. Its like a car might have a top speed of 100mph, but you wouldn't drive it at 97mph all day long (simplistic I know, lol). Might be OK though, feed your specs into a PSU Calculator and give yourself a 25% overhead to allow for efficiency.

I was running my X1950Pro on a 500w/18a 12v psu oc'ed to 648/817! Worked a charm :)

I would think yours will work fine with it, maybe even get away with running a XT

IMO you would be better off selling the stuff you have now before it devalues anymore, at least that way with the money you can still get for your system itll allow you to buy some halfway decent AM2 \ 775 stuff.

Should work, 450W is probably max output or something. I reckon if an X800XT PE (that "needs" 400W) can run on a 200W, you should be right :)

when i purchased my x1800 the manual said it needed a 450w psu, i ran a voltmeter on the psu lead and it was using 260w maximum (pretty much the 2nd rig in my specs) on my current rig with a dual core chip(overclocked),an 8800gts(overclocked), 1 extra hard drive and an extra fan it only uses 370w,the thing is them guidelines with graphics cards have to take into consideration all those crappy psu's bundled with $20 cases, an enermax will power it fine

If it's the same system in your specs, I think it looks fine for a non-PCIe rig.

Then again quoting from my sig "Im just a budget junkie". :)

I reckon you'll be fine running the x1950pro on that 400W PSU. I think I read somewhere that the card actually draws 120W, which is 10A on the 12V line. The 450W quote is a safe generalized estimate, probably assuming noname low quality PSU, and an otherwise fully loaded system spec.

I ran the HIS x1950pro AGP overclocked card on an Antec Truepower 380W PSU, with 2 HDD, DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM. Although I had problems, it was due to the card being duff, not the PSU.

On the other hand, if you do feel the need to upgrade your PSU, get one you can use in your PCI-E system when you upgrade, and justify the outlay as spreading out the PCI-E upgrade cost ;)
