gfx upgrade time advice needed :)

I have around £500 to spend on a new gfx car to replace my rx480

specs:
cpu : ryzen 1600 @3.9
asus prime b350 +
16gb adata 3000mhz @2933mhz
Kingston savage 250 gb ssd + 1gb 7200 Toshiba sata3
ocz psu zx 850w gold rated
windows 10 x64

at the moment I have a 1080p monitor which I will upgrade at a later date , I would prefer to stay with amd radeon based cards but I am temped to get a gtx1080 (is this a good idea ? )

Wait till more 3rd party Vega 56 and 64 cards, roll into stores, we only began with XFX...

Vega 56 or GTX 1080 vanilla are the best choices right now. For Vega, wait for custom cards.

this will beat Vega 56/64 in just about everything: performance,price,noise,temps, you name it.... I've got 1080 SJS myself, it's whisper quiet at stock ~2GHz, breaks 2100MHz easily with just about 50% fan speed. Max. clocks I was able to achieve in heaven was 2177MHz, although for game stable you gotta bring it back to around 2150MHz. A true beast.

I'd also recommend a 1070Ti if it wasn't for the 9gbps DDR5, which can only reach 9.3-9.4GHz. On the 1080 you can easily get 10.9-11Ghz before you can see negative scaling, and that +1500MHz is gonna make a difference. 1080 is gonna be ~10% faster OC vs OC, and this one costs just about 20 pounds more than 1070Ti's.

i got a palit gtx 1080 dual oc in the end , after a week of use my system just went pop and knocked the power trip system off .
I think it is the ocz zx 850w gold rated psu that's at fault

Could of been that palit card @qubit was having some weird issues with the palit card that he switched to a Zotac

I will try my old rx 480 to see , if it is the psu I hope it did not take out the mobo etc

it was a gold rated 850w psu so it had enough power but was a warrenty replacement unit and had run out the month before

no the unit was weak internally and some power supplies are overrated for what they actually are
