Ghetto test bench and stuff (Core2Duo, GTX 670, etc...)

OK, so just got my H75 in, and decided I wanted to see if I could pull a lightbulbie on this one...

The H75 doesn't have the mounting brackets for LGA 775, for my Maximus II Formula, which sucks, but oh well, let's see what I can find right?

Two hours later, some yarn (a good 5 metres or something like that), four cotton buds, and voila I've mounted the cooler. Running some stability tests on the E7200 at 4GHz, 60C with fans at around 70% (thats a guess, I'm using my train power supplies for this one). Seems like the mount is at least decent.

Yeah, it's really just for testing if everything else is in working order at the moment. I have my sights on a 4790k over x-mas. Until then it's bottlenecks everywhere

Go for it dude! Loved my Core2 days and wish I still had my Q9550/P45 combo.

Edit: I still rock a E7500 in my desktop at work :rockout:

An awful lot. More so because of the single channel RAM

the core2duo supports dual channel and its not the memory bandwidth that is going to be the major limitation
its the fact that its a dual core and not a quad and its not like the GTX 670 Is that great of a GPU the bottleneck will be minimal

This. The CPU is about as powerful as a non-HT haswell dual core at half the clock speed. As far as the CPU bottleneck goes, I have not tested it very much yet, but from previous tests with my brother's GTX 760, some games are absolutely fine. (HL2 engine and War thunder).

I want to see if I can get a cheap E8600 or maybe even a quad core, just to see what this board has in it. This E7200 is pretty rubbish silicon TBH, 4GHz seems to need ~1.55v, but I could have been pushing the memory too much for stock voltages (I already loosened timings to CAS6...) This evening I will try turning down some of the voltages.

i'm asking for some test's because i'm still on E8400 + possible oc 4-4.2Ghz range maybe more if try hard. and I would love to see some modern games with cards like 270x-760-280x range with this Core2Duo

Sure, will be doing some games over the weekend. I am a bit limited to what I can do at the moment, but I'll see what I can do.

Basically I first took a double thread and went under the buds and across, then, a quad thread in the opposite direction, then twisted the sticks to tighten the strands.

Not sure of the mounting pressure, but it's probably less than ideal.

you could have just used bolts & nuts + rubber washers
or plastic bolts/nuts/washers
both available at your local hardware store
thread is never gonna be tight enough

Don't have bolts and nuts of the right size and was too lazy to go to the harware store (have to walk ~1.5 miles there and back...) It's 60C at 4.0GHz with the fans running at minimum speed, so I'm happy.

Crysis runs at over 60 FPS in short visibility areas, pretty consistent 100% GPU usage, but in areas with longer visibility the GPU usage drops to ~60%, CPU usage is 100% on all cores, and FPS drops to ~35-40. 1680x1050p all ultra settings no AA.

Cinebench 11.5: 2.33pts

Cinebench 15.0: 203 pts

Men of War Assault Squad: seems to stay above 60 FPS, but stutters often.

Halo Combat Evolved Timedemo: 234.94FPS avg, no frames under 60 FPS.

thx, about crysis when I had 2 x 8800gt at GTS performance I was running crysis (dx9) very high with special ultra quality mod 35-70 fps @1650x1080
but if tried under dx10...oh boy ~20-25 fps so I understand you running in dx 10
