Showcased at CES last month, the S1081 tablet PC/slate based around the Intel Cedar Trail platform has now found its way onto its maker's (Gigabyte) website for a full reveal of its specs. Seen below, the mobile device measures 270 (W) x 173 (D) x 14.94 (H) mm, it weights between 790 grams (when equipped with an SSD) and 850 grams (with a HDD), and features a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) LED-backlit capacitive touchscreen, and a 1.86 GHz Atom N2800 processor.

The S1081 also packs 2/4 GB of RAM, up to a 500 GB HDD or up to a 256 GB SSD, an SD card reader, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, dual 1.5 W speakers, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFI, Bluetooth 3.0, optional 3.5G, one USB 3.0 ports, D-Sub and HDMI outputs, and a 4000 mAh battery. The slate's pricing and release date have yet to be announced.

As a netbook this spec would be $279. As a tablet, without cost of keyboard and folding case, this could sit around $249 or less (with basic HDD spec). I would be interested.

Their "screenshot" is so false. You dont get such a format on 1024 x 600!

More like $600 or more. Also the resolution is a bit to small for Windows 8.

$600 is really pushing it for an Atom netbook sans keyboard but with touch screen. It would be sad if gigabyte tried to deliver "iPad2" capabilities and technical feature set at a similar price. Not much win to the consumer except for x86 and wired ethernet/SSD slots.

Win 8 is supposed to support desktop scaling far better than XP/W7. It would be transparent to the user... only that fonts would be rendered much better, giving that "retina" quality, and pictures and photos would look great. iPad3 is soon to launch... and I can just see all these recently launched Windows devices looking cheap in comparison. Why are PC's lagging the industry. We all want better screens with higher pixel densities, right? Don't you want to READ on these things, or is it just for playing flash games? ;)

Y, I saw that too o_O! Perhaps twice as much rubbish? Or eco recycling. You know, waste in one, recycle in the other. LOL

Same picture also shows vents for active cooling. When will "economy" x86 get to silent passive cooling? Let's hope the next generation will manage!

Given that most x86 tablets are in the $500 range i'd say it's a fair bet. It's not a netbook without keyboard, it's a tablet. Different thing.

And pixel density. I want more of course, and Win8 will probably be an improvement but this 1024x600 is still to small imo. 1366x768 would be better (and is the recommended resolution for Win8 iirc).

Right.

I'm still right. There basicly is no sub $400 x86 tablets. At least not in my part of the world, and not on Newegg either.
