nVidia's budget cards have been pretty awesome from what I've experienced. My GeForce2 MX400 lasted me from 2001-2007 and in all that time I only found 3 games it couldn't run, and that was in the last year or so of use. The 8600GS in my laptop is also pretty awesome; it can run Mass Effect maxxed out @ 1280x800.
