Hi everyone. Today got my new Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming, installed it and when running games it creates terrible coil noise and what's worse it seeps through to my headphones too.

Is there any solution to this? Should i just RMA and try my luck again?

no. Tried with v-sync on, much better but still getting some coil noise seeping trough to my headphones.
I'm presuming you are using the onboard audio which typically is exposed to more noise. Most card manufacturers typically don't consider coil whine a means for replacement. Since it is brand new go through the store that you bought the card from and get it exchanged and also gigabyte has been known to claim that boards were damaged during shipment when it's them that has been damaging the cards on purpose so they don't have to replace them for free

See if you can still return the card for a refund, try to stay out of an RMA with Gigabyte.

Yeah, onboard audio, but this is not normal. Even with v-sync i can hear coil noise in my headphones even with all the game sounds. lol. I bought it trough Amazon, return will be pain but Amazon is usually very good with replacing/returning items.

Would it be smart to exchange it for same card but from other retailer? lol

Coil noise shouldnt seep to headphone, electric noise that seeps. Could be not only from the card that giving you noise but something else

Where you plug your headphone? Front panel or from the back?

Back. Noise started only with the new card. I don't get any interference with my GTX 770, it's back in my PC and everything is fine now.

Well, this is interesting. Just tested my GTX770 without v-sync, getting coil noise in headphones now too. Not nearly as bad as with GTX 1080, but still.

Could it be PSU that's causing it? It's a new PSU, got it few days ago, Corsair (CP-9020081-UK) RMi Series RM650i. This haven't been happening with my old PSU since i always had v-sync off in all games.

When you get a replacement get an MSI or Asus. Lowest chance of anything being fishy.

isn't it just matter of preference? lol why such hate for Gigabyte?

Bad RMA policy, bad fans, often the loudest cooling solution in the comparisons at dimilar price points.

Speaking from experience, my 780ti Windforce was not very good. Didnt even hit 1 Ghz...

All other brand cards ive owned were more quiet and better bins too

never had issues with Gigabyte tbh, that's why always it's my prefered company. but maybe i was just lucky until now. but we'll see, if it's even the card that's at fault, tomorrow going ot test my old PSU and see if something changes.

Good, but old GPU having no issue on the same PSU aleeady confirms that it is the 1080 at fault. A GTX 770 pulls more than a 1080

going to test my old PSU first then just get a refund on the card if nothing changes.

Already got my eyes on Asus ROG Strix GeForce STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING 8 GB GDDR5 Graphics Card - Black

you're going to need to do a load test and also Ripple test.

Possibly try older drivers too, or the ones from GA website

same thing happening with old PSU. And also discovered that my new Gigabyte GA-Z370 Aorus Gaming 5 motherboard is crap too. In all games even with old GPU getting bad audio interferences, loud enough to be a huge annoyance. This upgrade been nothing but pain. lol. Seriously, console gaming seems like so much better option right now. lol

When you get a replacement get an MSI or Asus. Lowest chance of anything being fishy.

Asus don't even accept coilwhine as a valid RMA reason. Two of my IRL mates just went thru hell with Asus and the shop because of coilwhine.
They ended up getting a very small amount of cash back (from the shop, not Asus. Around €50...) after waiting 6 weeks with NO GPU..

Both 1080 Ti Strix.

Any card can have coilwhine. I always buy from a shop with a full return policy. Never RMA because of coilwhine. You will just get the exact same card back again 99% of the time. Return the card instead.

No idea what to do at this point. Accept coil whine and get new motherboard hopefully one that doesn't have audio interference, get a new GPU and hope it doesn't have coil whine and replace motherboard hopefully with one that has no audio interference or just replace both and hope for the best. lol

well i paid extra just to get mobo with decent audio, so money kinda wasted. lol
It's mostly bollocks, they all use the same components, got burned too many times on that.
Got a soundcard and all problems went away.

Asus' Xonar cards are usually quite cheap and reliable, with Uni-Xonar drivers, which is what I use.
A Xonar DGX is about 25 quid on amazon.
