GIGABYTE Intros AORUS ARGB Fan Series

GIGABYTE introduced the AORUS ARGB Fan series. Sold in single-piece kits, these fans come in two variants based on size—120 mm (model: GP-AR120RFAN) and 140 mm (GP-AR140RFAN); and are visually characterized by eight ARGB LEDs located in the hub, diffused by the frosty-white impellers. The frame is back, with anti-vibration rubber padding along the mounts. The triangle-edged fan-blades are designed to maximize axial airflow, which can be traded in for lower speeds. The motors feature six slots (sets of winding), and a sleeved bearing with "graphene nano lubricant," which GIGABYTE claims offers 15% lower noise levels and double the lifespan than double ball-bearing designs.

The AORUS 120 ARGB Fan turns at speeds of 800 to 1,700 RPM, with airflow ranging between 18.52 to 40.85 CFM, pressure of 0.37 to 1.48 mm H₂O, and noise output of 7.3 to 28.6 dBA. Its sleeved bearing is rated for 73,500 hours. The AORUS 140 ARGB Fan, on the other hand, does the same 800 to 1,700 RPM, but thanks to its larger impeller, puts out 30.3 to 60.64 CFM of airflow, 0.59 to 2.18 mm H₂O pressure, and 8.9 to 35.8 dBA noise output, with the same 73,500-hour bearing lifespan. Both fans feature 4-pin PWM inputs for their main function, and 3-pin ARGB for the lighting. GIGABYTE is backing both with 3-year warranties. The company didn't reveal pricing.

Would be good if TechPowerUp did a new "in-depth" review of the current round up of fans covering:

Airflow
Noise (analysed as rpm/airflow increases)
Static Pressure
Performance on Case
Performance on Radiators

Noctua will be supposedly releasing black A12x25s on Q4 and next year a new next gen line up for 140mm fans and white fans as well.
Would be good to see those against all these fancy RGB fans and if any can stand up to the Noctuas.

Also an in depth analysis of the line up of Arctic fans.

So much praise for such low-speed, plain bearings, RGB-lit, certainly overpriced, graphine-lubricated fans ,o o wat a crap ! First of all, the 120mm model can be used on the radiator only in the posh poll configuration, or for ventilation of the housing. Such an expensive fen could have , higher RPM than the t models on the AIO offering already hew . We have an RPM regulator today on all motherboards in the bios offer. Yes quiet and incompetent. 140mm is on the verge of usability, but a higher RPM would make the bill more desirable, and there are many fan providers who would sell better if they had a better RPM. For me, hiding an incompetent and cheap engine under the pretext of quiet operation is just a little bit away from reality . Resistors doesn’t cost that much ! I am disappointed that giants behave the same as fraudsters.

For fans, I think it makes sense to go with known brands like Noctua, Phanteks and Arctic. Arctic sells RGB fans anyway if RGB is a must. I certainly will not recommend fans from Gigabyte because quite frankly, they are not known for designing PC fans, and I would think that this is more like slapping their brand on some OEM products. And after their bad QC and PR with the PSU, all the more I will recommend to look elsewhere.

Another site which doesn't do regular reviews now and for me was probably the best for custom water-cooled tests (like waterblocks, radiators, fans, etc) was https://www.xtremerigs.net/

They published something last April but that was after nearly 5 years of nothing! And nothing since April! Technpowerup is the only one that does radiator tests and fan tests now, but problem is, there isn't enough range! Like no good range of 140mm fan tests on Techpowerup! Why?

Anyways, feels like the masses are going AIO and cheap crappy RGB lights of everything! Science and engineering takes a 2nd spot now to aesthetics and looking cool being in first!

Also, just not enough time to do 140 mm fans. I cover keyboards, watercooling (in itself several categories), fans, audio (again multiple categories), networking, and portable storage here so with my current backlog of ~35 samples it is unlikely to happen anytime soon. At most I will show off 140 mm fans if sent with the equivalent 120 mm fans for review.

Next Gen Noctua 140mm are coming up Q1 next year. Perhaps time to start a baseline of other fans so when they do come out you you'll have something to compare against.

It would be a shame if you didn't review the next gen 140mm Noctuas! They will be selling like hotcakes!
