Gigabyte P45 Motherboards

Hey thinking of replacing my older motherboard (P35, it blew up) with a P45. Are they good quality? Good peformance?

Mine is good, no crashes since I've owned this. Early bioses were just bad, so if you read older reviews/user comments be aware.

Vista was giving trouble installing with two memory, took one off and installed fine. Read that in user comments, so was aware of the possible problem. Once it's installed mem works fine, probably just an early bios thing.

In tests performance has been better sometimes than in X38 boards. Faster than my P965 board was, but that was to be expected. Overclocking is harder than with P965 (as there are more settings), but no need to reset bios. Detects non working settings after couple tries, boots with defaults and remembers bios settings.

Generally, I've had good luck with Giga boards. However, my Giga p45 DS3R was very buggy, and died in just over a week. Maybe as noted above, this are better. Have you considered any of the DFI p35 or p45 boards? I'm a little biased right now, as my last few DFI boards have clocked well and have been stable as a rock.

Though luck on the dying part. Basically the same board, I just didn't need raid, so I went for the non R version for little save. Buggy part was the early bios versions, many new have come.

After having TWO Gigabyte P35 mobos go out on me within a day of each other there is NO WAY I will ever buy another Gigabyte product. Their boards have a huge issue with the BIOS and they havent fixed the problems in over a year of selling the newer ones. Newegg has even discontinued selling that board.

That's exactly right, but lessons can be learned from those screw-ups. OC-ers should know this lesson quite well, trial and error are second to none in with overclocking, modding, flashing, pretty much anything beyond plugging it in and booting it up. Unfortunately, a lot of TPU'ers like to fiddle with settings, many don't screw up after gaining some experience. It comes down to the quality of what they're working with, what settings they're knowleged on and how far they want to push something! If you keep making the same mistakes, it's time to buy prebuilt and roll with it, or do some more research imo!

I've heard great things about GB P45's, DFI's P45 JR, and I love my P5Q Deluxe. All have their quirks, tell me a MB/Chipset that doesn't, but mine has worked flawlessly. No complaints from my end, very solid, stable and very good cooling. My DFI P35 was a champ too, great board...going into a friends' PC build, it's prolly gonna OC an e7200 under an AC Freezer 7 Pro, should be aplenty for him and most out there!
