Gigabyte's RX 5500 XT Gaming OC comes with 8 GB VRAM to ensure there's plenty of memory for the latest games. The cooler has three extremely quiet fans, and fan stop is included, too. With manual overclocking, we broke the 2 GHz barrier, more than on any other RX 5500 XT so far.

This is painful to watch. The RX 5500 XT is a card in purgatory.
Its very expensive to produce (double capacity GDDR6 chips, 7nm TSMC silicon), and sold by AIBs at a 220$ pricing, putting it GTX 1660's level of cost (even Super by now), with worse PPW ratio and general performance, and there isn't much AMD can do to make it cheaper without cutting deep into their margins.

I can't even begin to fathom how the market will look like once NVIDIA makes the jump with their next uArch + lithography change. This is brutal. This isn't the 150-200$ market competition I hoped for. :shadedshu:

Gotta say looking at the game charts I don’t know where this card is supposed to fit in when it’s still getting beat by the RX590 which could probably be had for similar money. Sorry AMD I love ya but this is disappointing.

"If NVIDIA can charge the same for last-gen performance, so can we!"

I'd rather get an 8GB RX 580 for $130 and OC it for roughly the same performance. As usual, their CPUs are doing great, and their GPUs continue to disappoint.

I wonder how much cheaper this card could be with GDDR5 or GDDR5X and what the performance difference would be. GDDR6 is one thing that drives prices up.

I just really hope their successful Ryzen endeavour will urge them to reinvest some of the drive and capital back into RTG I mean the 5700 is a very good start, powering both the big consoles both with new bells and whistles we should see in the next consumer products. But they still need a “hit” not another Vega(I still love mine) but something to go toe to toe with Nvidia rather than nip at their heels.

The 5700 and 5700 XT are pretty good hardware. The 5700 XT can fight on-par with the 2070 Super despite being $100 less. The 5700 non-XT wipes it's ass with the 2060 Super.

The 5500 XT though... if it was only $150 (and +$20 for its 8 GB variants), then it would've been fine.

There's a lot of fighting and wiping asses. But not much substance...

2060 Super is faster than 5700

You can't just make up stuff like that. People have Internet. They'll check.

But some of us don't bleed green and don't care about RT so the 5700 is a great option. For example I have a Freesync 2HDR monitor, a 5700XT would be a decent upgrade from my current Vega and I still get to use all the features I paid for.

Bleed green? Dude made a statement of fact clearing up the misinformation above. Also, he didn't mention RT... just faster performance. ;)

If you monitor is on the approved list from Nvidia (I'd guess yes with FS2 HDR monitor - could be wrong!)... you can get that too. But yes... they are less expensive. That is true. :)

And we will. According to TPU, the 2070 Super is 8-12% faster (1080p and 2560x1440) than a 5700 XT. A 2060 Super is 8% faster than a 5700. (1080p and 2560x1440). Both use a bit less power too. That said, the AMD cards are cheaper and have the better performance per dollar if that is what you are after.

We both know his stance. Im not gonna debate hIm. But just stating that for me the 5700XT is an actual upgrade for me and no my monitor is not on the list so the competition has nothing to offer me I only mentioned RT isn’t a carrot for me over my FS2 HDR which is supported in a surprising amount of new releases. Something recently has absolutely broken in it Div2 but in my case I’m happy in my ecosystem and look forward to whatever “Big” card A!MD has in the works and try to resist the enticing upgrade the 5700XT is for me.

No one said 5700 is a bad GPU. Is it a good option? That really depends. It's clearly good value if you don't want to pay for the features Nvidia provides.
In fact, if you don't care about RT and don't want to pay extra for it, this is likely the last generation in this segment that you'll fancy. You should definitely buy it.

How is my stance relevant here?
@Cheeseball wrote false statements and I've pointed that out.
You'll mock my posts - even the objective and correct ones - just because I prefer the brand you don't? What does that say about your intelligence?

You've just gone berserk here. Egocentric as well.
We started from a fundamental comparison of performance of some GPUs and suddenly you're giving us the history of your childhood and how your life experience makes you buy AMD.
This has nothing to do with my earlier posts.

See I made no mockery of your posts nor have I ever (paranoid much?) But that certainly didn’t stop you from going all out on mocking me with just that of which you falsely accused me of... There's a reason I don't engage you. I would be questioning my own intelligence if I were you after that ridiculous act of absolute hypocrisy you just typed....

2070 Super is faster than 5700XT

You can't just make up stuff like that. People have Internet. They'll check.

The 2060 Super is faster in some games by like 2 to 4 FPS. It's also more expensive at $399 (I did a quick search on NewEgg and can't find one at that MSRP). The 5700 non-XT can be had for $380 and even less at the moment. I would call that 2060 Super toilet paper at this point.

The 2070 Super is generally 8% to 12% faster than the RX 5700 XT, I agree. But like I mentioned, it's $100 more, which to me is not worth it just to have a GPGPU that can use CUDA and proper H.264 encoding/decoding. I would also not rely on this card for RTRT too much with this part, rather leaving that to the RTX 2080 and higher.

If it was $449 or hell, straight even $399 with the RX 5700 XT, then I would've gotten one (considering my woes with the Windows Radeon drivers). But I wanted to try out the red side this time and I'm not really disappointed.

FWIW, I still have my ZOTAC GTX 1070 AMP! for CUDA stuff, so yes, I see the value in NVIDIA's offerings, but for gaming AMD's RX 5700 XT is a damn good price-to-performance choice.

The coolers on these Gaming OC cards are always going to be complete and utter junk. They are GIgabyte's lowest tier of GPUs. The only real difference is they've given this card a backplate. But i bet 50% of the heatpipes on that would of originally been on the cooler were sacrificed just so they could give you that backplate.

2070 super is more expensive because it has actual usable driver.
Think of it this way, AMD pays you $100 for beta testing their driver ;)

And they don't even have to pay to get their userbase (fans) to defend them with absolutely mind boggling loyalty, to the point of twisting facts to suit their needs (like notb pointed out already).

Best thing you can ask for as a company from its fans~

Hey, for those blood that "does not bleed green" the 5500XT would be an awesome buy. They don't care about price/performance ratio or driver issue, they only care about their core belief---IN AMD THEY TRUST

Gotta say looking at the game charts I don’t know where this card is supposed to fit in when it’s still getting beat by the RX590 which could probably be had for similar money. Sorry AMD I love ya but this is disappointing.

Nice attempt but I actually had to quote myself so your half assed attempt at being clever at my expense loses all that edge you were going for. I’‘m sorry your Fury hurt you, hopefully one day you let go of your bitterness

Nice review and a lot of commentaries on the topic. I am not after a new card, but even I somewhat "get" the situation. People are bathing themselves in second hand RX470/480/580. I got my Nitro a few months ago with left over warranty for 70 EUR (which is OK for Europe, I think). RX590 goes two to three time more expensive here, which I don't find justified. It's just the RX5500 XT is dead on arrival, IMO.

So this is basically my own 1060 with slightly better performance, 2 more GB of VRAM and like a zillion years late.
Then again, the low end is always a crowded place, it's hard to strike a good balance (or any kind of balance, imho) there.

Here's the issue... this is 150W TDP card roughly the same as what had been the R7 265 (Pitcairn) "mid-range" graphics card would've been thought about 6 years ago. Those got by more often with single fan solutions, here today it seems AMD/RGT/AIB's wants to "up-sell" these chips to a position of what had been established more like "1080 performance" segment, but not seeing it improve any/significantly over even 4 year ago on either matrix perf/$, however it's not exclusive to either chip provider.

Like I said previously the RX 5500 XT 4Gb single fan $150 (dual fan at $160) and then say decent single fan 8Gb offerings for $180 ( for extra GDDR6), while AIB with "Top Shelf" fans and RGB might be topping out at $200. All that said, even such pricing is still scaled against new cost/up charging of post mining (demand) is a reality, and folks keep buying at these prices so Nvidia/AMD can.

And they don't even have to pay to get their userbase (fans) to defend them with absolutely mind boggling loyalty...

Heh, AEG shill much?

On topic, 5500XT SKU price/perf is poor. Irrationally, I also don't like PCIe 8x lanes (regardless of recent media). RDNA is interesting with single cycle/double width ALUs & overhauled RBE, but barely playing catchup at this stage. 2020 should be better with Ampere, Xe, RDNA2 & the consoles. RDNA SKUs will continue along-side RDNA2, so will get price adjustments once GCN inventory is run down & Ampere SKUs released.

:shadedshu:

In Singapore, even the 1660S is cheaper. Epic AMD fail.
