1&2 - because Gigabyte needs a marketing gimmick and a "First".

Any "creator" out there will plug this to a high res external display.

1. The clue is in the aspect ration 16:10, so this is a 3860 x 2400 screen, hence 4K+
2. Overkill in 15.6" IMO, would much prefer a 2560 x 1600 screen.
Makes sense, thanks.

It's not only overkill, but it taxes your GPU unnecessarily if you want to run your games at native resolution. Not to mention the ridiculous desktop scaling you'd have to use, which messes up old apps that don't support it. 1080p is perfectly fine at 15" (or up to 25" on desktop) imo.

Benchmark Scores I once clocked a Celeron-300A to 564MHz on an Abit BE6 and it scored over 9000.
4K is already a higher resolution that necessary. This is a marketing number that is being abused to con those who will pay for higher numbers, even when they harm the product and buyer in equal measure.

Apple understands this; "Retina" displays mean that their DPI is as high as required for human vision to be unable to see any further detail. It's telling that the 14" MBP models have 3K displays and the 16" MBP models are 3.5K. There are blogs that show the calculations Apple have done, proving that Retina resolution is already better than required, it still meets that "Retina" standard even when taking into account people who have better than 20:20 vision sitting closer than is ergonomically sensible to the display.

Having used 4K 14" laptops I can say with certainty that the impact on battery life, brightness, and cost are significant, whilst the additional resolution over alterantive WQHD panels (2.5K) is negligible, to the point that I need to put my nose on the screen to see the pixels. At normal viewing distances, the only obvious difference is that the 2.5K screens look much better because of the improved brightness and will continue to run for an additional two hours or more on battery.
