gigabyte vega 56 oc, fan manual trouble

hey guys i recently test to setup the fans, it seems msiafterburn not work, while wattman does work, altho i prefer using msiafterburn since its user friendly, any idea why it doesnt work? i never have trouble like this before using different cards, and one thing is about the temperature, based on msiafter my temp never goes 70c, so basicly i presume is far from overheat, but the card pyscally hot, i can feel the hot air through mine pc case, and for a specific games like yakuza 2 it got crash after an hour, while i test resident evil 2 is normal, im left it for 2hours now, nothing crash on resident evil 2, its quite confusing one, will borrow and ty another game tommorow, i dont own much games hehe

Not sure why your card isn't working in afterburner and a crash in a specific game if you can't replicate it in multiple games usually isn't much to worry about typically.

I will say that no matter where you look your specific model is rated very poorly

yeah i know this brand kind of hotplate one, it have quite bad reputation here becouse of heat hehe, and yes i should not worry much, beside it still under warranty till 2021, just curiousty abt msi doesnt work hehe

The vrm hits about 93c in a case that's probably the extra heat you're noticing. If you haven't already I would try a clean install of the latest afterburner see if that helps also the AMD driver for fan control could be conflicting I guess but it's been ages since I used an AMD GPU (290X) so hopefully someone else who owns your specific card will chime in.

The problem with those Gigabyte Gaming cards is the way the heatpipes are positioned on the GPU. I had the exact same issue. The heatpipes are ribbed and flattened on the GPU die. When I opened mine (Vega 64) I saw that the majority of the thermal paste was in between the ribs. The cards are actually built quite well for cooling with pads all over. My recommendation is to remove the shroud and apply some new Thermal Paste to the card.

Exactly after I did that I could literally put my hands on the backplate for 10 seconds without getting a 2nd degree burn. Now the GPU does not go past 66 C even after an intense Gaming session.

my gameplay never exced 70c, its on 64-69c max, but still the blackplate going so hot hehe

The GPU temp is one thing but keep in mind that the memory is on the same die and HBM can create a ton of heat on it's own.

it fixed alr as expected it was due driver issue, i used aorus cd package instead download driver, never have any crash anymore, but the fans of mis afterburn still be mystery, it wont work hehe

Msi Afterburner does not always work with Vega cards. You should use Wattman and set the fan profile to manual and dial in a fan speed. These cards have the zero fan spin policy and that can confuse some programs.
