Hey all,

I'm looking for a decent i7 rig, and I'm pretty interested in Gigabytes X58 boards.
I have the option of getting a new UD7 for €285, or an X58-Extreme for around €200.
Other than USB3.0, what other differences are there between the two, and is the UD7 really worth the extra cash?

Thanks guys! :toast:

I had both the Extreme and the UD7. I actually still have the UD7. They are very close. However, the UD7 clocks slightly higher and handles memory better. Is it worth the extra cash? For me it was.

Higher clocking is definitly something I'm interested in.
I saw you had yours for sale, are you still selling it?

USB 3.0 is pretty tempting. I know its not going to become totally mainstream for quite a while, but I'm sure its always good to have.
Generally, whats Gigabytes warranties like?

Hmm, if you can spare a little more, you could go for something premium like the WS Revolution :

Thats really tempting.... *drools* I was looking at the SuperComputer mobo from Asus as well, but I dont feel I would ever really need that many PCI-E lanes. Even if I were to get the UD7, I probably wouldnt get a chance to use the 3rd PCI-E slot before I upgrade again.

Right, and that's probably the only noticeable benefit on that board, for gamers.

Apparently it clocks well also, but whether it's the best I haven't found any conclusive evidence.

It's sold. Only lasted a couple of days. Gigabyte warranties their boards for 3 years.

Yeah. Checked a couple reviews. Hard to make a definitive decision.

Downer. I should have gone for it when I had the chance.

I think I'll probably go for the UD7. Asthetics are damn tasty on it too, for what its worth.

you dont need the ud7 hell if you want ud7 might as well wait a month and get the ud9. but imo screw gigabyte and get the EVGA classified. clocks better and is able to do uper good ram clocking as well. even the rampage 3 extreme. the high end giga boards are meant to be the same except a few different features i.e. usb 6 or sata 3 maybe a few more sata ports. the ud7 and extreme are so close to each other it isnt worth the extra cash

I haven't really looked much into the Rampage 3.
I was considering a Classy, but they're freakin expensive over here. Next to impossible to get EVGA gear for a decent price. Also, no USB3.0 on the classy boards either.
