Gigabyte Technology has now added to its website a second Radeon HD 7970 graphics card, the (previously-leaked) model codenamed GV-R797OC-3GD which features a dual-slot, triple-fan cooler, a custom PCB, and a GPU clocked at 1000 MHz (the standard frequency is 925 MHz).

Gigabyte's customized HD 7970 also has an Ultra Durable VGA construction (2oz copper PCB, Tier 1 memory, Japanese Solid Capacitor, Ferrite Core Chokes, Low RDS (on) MOSFET), a 384-bit memory interface, 3 GB of GDDR5 VRAM set to 5500 MHz (no overclock here, unfortunately), DVI, HDMI and dual Mini DisplayPort outputs, and CrossFireX support. The GV-R797OC-3GD's price tag has yet to be revealed.

the gigabyte cooler is superior to the XFX cooler in both noise and temps so XFX might be in stock but its not really appealing because the BLACK EDITION DOUBLE DISSIPATION 7970 still dosent really cool that much better then a reference cooler

so its a cooler thats not that great on a reference PCB at a higher price, Gigabyte kinda has it beat on everything except availability

for those who dont know

XFX lifetime warranty only applies to there aftermarket NON REFERENCE PCB gpus, read the fine print the double dissipation 7970 does get lifetime warranty but its NOT transferable seems they changed the wording again on there site edited for accuracy

so yea ill take the quieter better cooled gigabyte gpu :toast:

altho im really just waiting on MSI and there Twin Frozr III variant like alot of other people i bet.

so in response to that i would take a Gigabyte 7970 over an XFX currently. dosent help most XFX aftermarket cooled cards have utterly craptastic coolers.

well im not sure as i havent gotten a response from XFX yet

but from appearances there 2 year warranty = you replace the cooler you void the warranty, where as with cards that have the lifetime warranty you can replace the cooler, they've really made a mess of there warranty service as far as im concerned

Gigabytes is pretty damn simple its 3 years good to go done lol no special this or that or exceptions for this gpu but not for that one etc etc.

and damn it why couldnt Gigabyte give out a release date. would be nice to know when the aftermarket gpus are going to hit the market.

They are available at one store in Australia as of today, so I would say they will be available everywhere in the next few days.

Thank gawd they stuck with this design. I was afraid they may had done something like ASUS and have a triple slot cooling solution. I have the GTX 580 SOC from Gigabyte and the three fan cooler does an AMAZING job. With fans set to auto in afterburner (no custom fan profile), max temps are around 62-65C.

But XFX is a crap brand. Their failure rates are very high and going up. And warranty is usually only 2 years.

This is so true; I lost two XFX cards in a space of two months, one was dead out of the box.

idk what is asus trip or yeston or any company using trislot cards but this is dumb. I could see a x2 card using it due to gpus but a single gpu no thanks.

and you do realize that the 5000 and 6000 series had lifetime warranties and had better support

HD 7000 series gets a limited 2 year warranty unless its a custom XFX card so yea they are shitty, there basically dropping there awesome warranty service on the GPUs that matter aka Reference cards which have the best compatibility with waterblocks and aftermarket coolers.

eitherway im not a fan of blue if this was red and black i would buy it asap
