GlobalFoundries says that TSMC infringed 16 of its patents covering various aspects of chip manufacturing (for details, please see the table below), including those chips that use FinFET transistors. In particular, the company claims that TSMC’s 7 nm, 10 nm, 12 nm, 16 nm, and 28 nm nodes use its intellectual property. Considering the fact that the said manufacturing processes are used to make more than a half of TSMC’s chips (based on revenue share), potential damages seeked by GlobalFoundries may count billions of dollars.

let's hope nothing comes of this, it will set back the gaming PC industry a decade. I think I might upgrade to RTX 3080 when it releases next year though, just be to be safe. LOL

Some reading trough the lines went like this: PC industry getting set back, well then better upgrade to the next xx80 series , after 5 years past it's end of life , when presumably , one can be scored for cheap on a nthhandmarket Just my 2 cents going haywire atm, coming out of surgery, f.sh1t it hurts like scoarched hell.

For AMD, when they spun off GloFo, they probably included a lot of licensing and other agreements to prevent this from ever happening.
For Intel... just see what happened to DEC. Intel doesn't screw around when it comes to patent licensing. GloFo is looking for a payout, not death.
