Palit 8800 GT 1GB-1Ghz on H2O
So, I set a goal for myself recently. I decided I was gonna hit 1Ghz on my Palit 8800 GT 1GB Super+ on only water, and be able to complete at least one benchmark before it either went up in smoke (what I expect to happen. lol), or I reached it's limits in general.
Now, this isn't for the purpose of shattering benchmark records, but mostly for "proof of concept", and to just to figure out I can do it.
My chosen bench is Furmark. I wanted a short one to minimize the risk of damage, even tho Fur is a known core heater. Heat vs. short duration, heh, tough choice. lol.
Lets start off with a couple pics, shall we.
These are pics of my overall setup. (Yes, this is what I use on a daily basis. lol) Notice I'm using 2 seperate loops. a 3x120 on my cpu, and a 1x120 on the Palit.
Here's a close-up of the back of the card. It's v-modded for core and mem. It is also OCP (Over Current Protection) modded, thus the 3rd VR you see there. The OCP mod is crucial to achieving my goal. Without it, the card would shut down under load at anything above about 1.54V. This mod didn't completely eliminate OCP tho. If I could completely eliminate it, I feel I could accomplish even more. Excuse the sloppy work. I wasn't trying for pretty, just trying to get it done.
Here, we have the reason I needed the OCP to achieve a benchable 1Ghz (take note of the pic's name )
This is where I've gotten so far. 950Mhz. So close, yet so far. lol.
Here's a bench on Vantage @ 950Mhz. Good for the top Single 8800GT score on the Orb. http://service.futuremark.com/searc...inorversion=1&scoretype=1&scoreFrom=&scoreTo=
I do have a gpu-z validation at 1GHz, I just can't get it to bench at it yet. lol. http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/vcdub/
My thanks go out to Palit, and DaMulta and Palit_Guy. Without them, I wouldn't be able to attempt this.
