Oh how many of us, myself included, would love to dance on the metaphorical grave of cryptocurrency! However, crypto is like zombies; always comes back from the dead. I don't see it ever going away so long as we have computers. Maybe for us gamers, hopefully it will be of decreased importance long enough for GPU prices to come down from orbit.

even with mining inflated gpu prices performance per dollar is still better than it was.. i just paid £400 each for a couple of 1070 cards..

less than two years ago i paid near to £600 each for couple of 980 TI cards.. the performance is very similar between a 980 TI and a 1070..

games havnt changed much over this time.. it strikes me that we have a bunch of gamers whinging about f-ck all when it comes down to it..

Making money before a market crashes is worth it. Catch it early with cheap GPUs and sell it all before the drop. Make thousands if done right.

Running a payment network IS a reason.

Gaming is wasting electricity for "literally no reason."

The problem is more of an efficiency problem... VISA and centralized systems are much more efficient than any PoW-model blockchain. The answers to this have been slow coming, but in the meantime if they are willing to pay for the electric it really is their right. If you want to ban crypto then by the same logic you should definintly ban gaming. People have a right to "waste" electricity how they choose.

Most users mine etheruem uaing gpus and trade it for BTC. Others use nicehash which uses ypur available hardware for hashing power and pay ypu in Bitcoins.

First we complained that asics killed the gpu mining.
Now that they made algorithm that is too complex for asic we complain because of inflated gpu prices.
Only the governments can take the cryptocurrency down.
It's just another forced control.
And that imo is way worse than inflated gpu prices.

hey wait, wasnt the USD dropping? these past few months the CAD was rising a lot compared to USD, but i forgot what EUR/USD was like

if bitcoin's value hypothetically stays the same, but the USD value goes down relative to EUR/GBP/etc, then wouldnt measuring the value of bitcoin in USD result in a lower number?
