Hey guys, was just wondering what headset you lot use for gaming, as there is so many in the market it's hard to decide on one, much like everything else.

I'd like one where the mic is detachable, as i don't use it too often, i wouldn't mind just plain old headphones too, as long as there good, and is pretty big as my head is on the big side

Thanks!

I use sony MDR-V150 headphones(very responcive).

Then i just purchased a Logitech USB mic AK5370 with power switch on the base! (looks as if the model # changed)

Pretty sure this was all done in the $40 USD range!

If children have access to your headphones, buy the lowest price available. From my experience, the more money you spend, the more likely you are to find chewing gum in the ear piece.

Razer Piraha has detachble headphones, but they are kinda expensive. Really good quality though, sold out at newegg
reviews here

Buy.com has them in stock and pretty cheap. Newegg is that expensive because they liek to jack prices up.(make sure to sign up a google checkout account, saves you $10)

amazon.com selling it for $80

PS:here's the amazon best selling list of computer headsets incase piraha is not your flavor http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/pc/16229351/ref=pd_zg_hrsr_pc_1_4_last&tag=tec06d-20

I realize that you probablly want something with a mic built into the headset but I'll recommend this. I'm using of Sony MDR-V150 headphones which sound wonderful and a Shure 57b microphone. The mic is an instrument/vocal mic that picks up no background noise and I can set it up a good 3ft away with it pointing at my face and hold normal conversations in game. So for $70 + perhaps a small desktop mic stand, you can get these and be able to use them for things other than gaming.

If you want audiophile headphones, the Seinheisser HD280Pros are amazing. They're expensive at about $80 a pair without a mic, though.

I'm currently using an Altec Lansing AHS615 headset with SRS-3D capabilities. It's defi an underdog offering in the market, with great sound and a good mic. Comfortable, too. Typically runs around the $50-$60 mark.

Razer's Barracuda HP-1 is the only headset I know of on the market that makes use of true 5.1 sound, and specs are decent for it. Their Pirahna headset is also decent, at about half the price of the HP-1.

Ideazon has a gaming headset coming out on par with Razer's (minus the 5.1 speakers), priced about $70.

If you have a DEEP wallet, and don't mind spending the dough for one of the best headsets on the market: http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=437&subcategory=439&product=16975&nav=0

The ones at Buy.com and Amazon are the cheaper version of the Piranha's, and the ones at newegg are the higher model. I'd say the cheaper model sould work just fine.

Ooopse my bad....The ones at Newegg are not piranhas at all, they are barracuda HP-1's...they are expensive because of the surround sound...lemme see how much they are at amazon and buy.com...
amazon has the barracuda for 107$ free shipping
also note that the barracuda headset got pretty bad reviews on amazon.
buy.com doesn't have them.
imo piranhas are fine if you can spare that much money.
otherwise sneekypeet's recommendation is pretty good.

Awesome, thanks for the info guys, the barracuda seems like a great choice for me considering it's pretty big and has a detatchable mic, will probably get one of those, thanks guys!

Sennheiser PC151, don't buy any 5.1 Headset if you have a descent soundcard and speakers as they are pretty expensive. Barracuda is cumbersome and the paint peels off.
