Analysts believe there could be more gains ahead, though, as demand sends prices higher and boosts companies throughout the semiconductor space. Even as stock fundamentals appear stretched thin, Sur said “we believe semi companies are shipping 10% to 30% BELOW current demand levels and it will take at least 3-4 quarters for supply to catch up with demand and then another 1-2 quarters for inventories at customers/distribution channels to be replenished back to normal levels.”

Instead of buying a new GPU now, I bought a new 4K TV for now, no regrets.
If I would see a GPU in stock I wanted, I just don't want to pay an absurt amount for it.
Maybe I'll just wait for next gen Lovelace/Hopper....

Both NVIDIA and AMD will be cautious to ramp up additional production due to the lesson they learned from the last coins crashed that left them with excess inventories. NVIDIA has already delayed the launched of 3080 ti once. There is really no incentive to launch new cards until maybe a year later. Why launch anything if people can't even buy them? They do need to work with retailers to combat the bots and scalping, because if they don't, this mess for sure will repeat itself.

The market won't make price adjustments till supply exceeds demand. Both sources are stuck here as yield rates are still low low. If one company could produce more, they would cause they'd make a killing.

Maybe a refresh from AMD, but Nvidia shifted to a two cycle for a while now. (Wich is imo a good thing in the current situation, anything trying to run on 5 nm in 2021 will have to fight for scrap when Apple own more than 50% of the capacity). The road map also suggest 2022 for RDNA 3

Nvidia & AMD can launch a new card every month or cease all launches for the year; either way it would make little difference to the average consumer.

HI,
I keep finding it easier and easier to pass on gpu's, 20 series was tough but made 30 series even easier to pass on until the smoke settles.

I feel for custom system builders though not good for them at all.

My 2070 died on me in December of last year (do not buy Zotac) so naturally, panicking due to the GPUpocalypse, I stood awake refreshing store pages until 6 AM just so I could get a 3070 Gaming X Trio at MSRP.

Looking forward to my 3070 coincidentally dying so I'm forced to get a new GPU the same way, or maybe not at all :peace:

Hi,
Maybe with the new back up battery system your gpu's and system in general might live longer :)

Undervolted & OCd my GPU at the same time, drawing less power, producing less heat, and clocking higher, so fingers crossed. The coil whine in general is reduced so the UPS combined with getting actual wall power may be helping the PSU.

I'm afraid with 7-8 billion people this idea that it will ever end is a bit hopeful. I think this will never end.

Honestly if I was building a PC right now (I'm not), I would just try to get a PS5 or xbox series x at this point.

Unless I got a persistent itch to game, I would just save my money and wait. I doubt you can even find those consoles in stock. Not willing to pay scalper prices and nobody should.

But, since I got a Ryzen with no iGPU, and I need to use my PC for work, getting a new GPU ASAP was a no-brainer. And if I'm getting a new GPU anyway it might as well be new-gen. The 2070 I had was a Mini variant which was a result of the drive bay on my old HP Prebuilt case -- since I have a case that can accomodate larger GPUs now, I'd rather not get the 2070 replaced, and get a new GPU with better cooling and performance.

there is something going on behind the scenes with Nvidia. i wont say how i know this, but im aware of something vaguely
it is my opinion, based solely on my experiences & things ive picked up, that Nvidia has halted shipments for the time being, this stop on shipping began last week.

the only reason i can think they would do this is to either build up a sufficient stockpile, so they can flood the market.
the other option is maybe they CANT ship, due to lack of components or some other logistical issue, a new model card drawing needed supplies, or some AIB drawing massive inventory for their needs, etc, etc

im leaning toward the former over the latter.
i do know that shipments direct from Nvidia to suppliers have essentially stopped

So I presume it affects all AIB's or is this simply nvidia's cards (FE)? Are they still making the chips at the Samsung plant and supplying the AIB's or ultimately, this is all Nvidia 3000 series GPU's?

those who buy from Nvidia in large quantity to resell retial to stores like Walmart, amazon ,newegg, etc.
i have no idea about AIB's or ay other things. im just speaking on my expereinces & opinions regarding Nvidia shipping RTX3 series cards to wholesale warehouses

ive been able to get a few cards here & there, but as of February 23rd, the well dried up

yes, I misread that part.

Thanks!

so that means more or less my chance of finding a 3080 is even less now than it was before if what you say is correct.

But what is AMD's excuse? Their availability is even worst than Nvidia's so far.

AMD has been harder to acquire than nvidia. I grabbed three 6800s a few months back, but that was the last I saw of anything remotely current from them. Every time i check inventory over the last 2+ months , AMD is set to 0. It sucks, but luckily most people will take a nvidia alternative if its from the RTX line.

I ended up with 3 3070's and everytime I went to my local supplier (memory express, rather large retailer here in Canada), and they would have about 20 or so 3070's, 3060 TI's and maybe at best 3 - 4 RX 6800/XT's. And the prices are abysmal as well with the 6800 costing at least $1000 CAD while a 3070 is $800.
