I'm looking to add some quick disconnect fittings to my water loop to make it a bit easier to handle, fill, leak test, etc. Ideally I would want fittings that don't leak (obviously), are relatively easy to connect and disconnect, aren't too large (this is going into an SFF build, so fittings reaching 10cm long when connected are less than ideal), and don't impede flow too much (I currently have an EK-SPC pump, and I'm planning to ditch that for an Alphacool Eisbaer LT Solo pump/block combo). And ideally they shouldn't be wildly expensive. They also need to be available for purchase in Norway or Sweden. Any suggestions? My preferred water cooling shop exclusively sells Barrow QDCs, and while I know Barrow makes some good stuff I have no idea about their QDCs - and I'm very wary of bad ones.

Ive only used koolance in the past. They were pretty long but i know they make a bunch of different kinds. Ive no experience with barrow unfortunately. Altho alphacool makes some, they should be available at their website. If i remember correctly they were really affordable as well.

Hi,
Yep koolance.com best place to purchase best price.
Female qd3 with barb for 10-16mm or 3/8-5/8" soft tubing
Male qd3 with barb for 10-16mm or 3/8-5/8" soft tubing

They also have the G1/4" threaded type that you mount directly to the item
I prefer the barb so I can control where a drip line is if they ever leak.

Great question, any more thoughts on this would be welcome.
I once bought some cheap Koolance ones that have been an extreme pain to work with.
I have to apply a lot of pressure and it takes ages, all the while worried I am going to slip and smash something in the case.

If anyone has a recommendation for us on any that hook and unhook very smooth and easily, that would be appreciated.

I'm on air now with my build but I had Koolance and as cool as they were, when I used them after a year of sitting in the loop, one of them seized up. Maybe they're best for regular use, not in my case, a year of sitting in the loop without any 'movement'.

Whoa, those look incredibly compact compared to anything else out there. Definitely interesting, though I can't find them for sale anywhere ... damn.

I definitely won't be regularly assembling and disassembling my loop, so that combined with the indication of a drop in quality pretty much rules them out for me. I've had Bitspower QDCs recommended elsewhere, so I might look into those. Alphacool's QDCs look pretty decent too, but everything from Alphacool seems to be sold out these days.

Deal is you need to moisten the male end before inserting or you'll damage the o-ring no pun intended just good sense dealing with o-rings :p

Hi,
Is that a UK/ EU type or just distilled water ?
Problem is maintaining ph 7 with no additives which if off too much corrosion follows.

For use in car batteries. That's as much as I know. I think it's likely the same as distilled.

Deionised isn't the same as distilled, it's a higher degree of purification, with most mineral ions removed from the water. That also makes it a potent solvent as it can grab and hold on to a lot of stuff from its environment, though I doubt this would ever damage a water loop (copper, brass, nickel and plastics tend not to be the most reactive substances).

Hi,
Thanks for the link QD3 and QD4 series is much improved supposedly
I've had the QD3 I linked too for a little over 6 months and no leaks so far and have four sets on each of three rigs last one my entertainment center.
Only issue is the black coating scuffs up a little on the male but again it helps to wet them before inserting.

But operation wise my comment below applies to keeping the o-rings intact.

Hi,

Thrash, how did the quick disconnects actually work mechanically speaking.
I see Koolance say 'pull' on theirs, while Alphacool says "push"

I suspect both are the same type of push or pull one way and it pops out.
Is there any pressure required, any locking mechanism or simply yank on it?

I had some bitspower like these :

1596906181437.png
1596917656832.png

They are awful. The male side has a little extended nub, that slides down into the slots there, then you have to twist this piece (twisting an already connected barb/compression fitted line is yucky) WHILE pushing inwards and then when the nub gets to the end, it slips into a locking position

Then to undo it you have to again push to allow the nub to get back into the track(this is the hardest part), and then twist it till it's at the other end.

I desperately want to avoid ever using this type again.

Hi,
There is a collar you slip/ pull down a little and yes it pops off after a distance
Inserting you just push together after wetting the male end and it self latches.

Koolace QD4 series are supposed to have the best flow found this out after I got QD3 but it's not bad that I've noticed
Like I said I have four sets on each build none leaking so far.
I like the inline type so I can route the qdc's where if they do leak it won't hurt any hardware gpu/ psu/... just drip on the bottom of the case if it ever happens.
Flow direction I've read is outlet male and inlet female.

As far as size goes G1/4" openings on rads/..... are only so big so going over 10mm or 3/8" really does nothing but add more restriction so I stick with that and 16mm or 5/8" outside soft hosing for good enough hose wall thickness.

Thanks that sounds much better. Twisting is the worst.

I hear you about the inlets - it's only to keep things uniformed. Also so many places out of stock of quick disconnects.

Regarding the sizing, I meant the barbs being 13/19. I get that the flow is reduced do to the ID of the QDC. Though struggling to find QDC at 13/19 with compression barbs.
Think I'll have to settle for some basic QDC with no compression or bulkhead.

That also happens with time and corrosion. I've got a handful here that are years old and do that. I've just been too lazy and its not that big a deal to me at least, but one of these days I will clean 'em somehow. I have both QD3 and QD4, happens to both of them.

Hi,
That I've noticed the 10-16/ and or 3/8-5/8" barbs are pretty snug on soft tubing I've used
I'm using modmymods clear pvc clear soft tubing atm and like it a lot local USA
ModMyMods 3/8" ID x 5/8" OD Flexible PVC Tubing - Crystal Clear (MOD-0003) - 3/8” ID x 5/8” OD Soft Tubing - Tubing ModMyMods.com - PC Watercooling Parts and Accessories

Also use their mods coolant I like this stuff a lot too supposed to be mayhems based with their local distilled water 9.00 per liter plus coolant as discount code for one free
I'd always just use premix easier to deal with then distilled and additives to keep corrosion and growth away plus clear so no staining....
