So now that we've established nobody committed yet to launching anything this summer, what was your original point again?

Thanks for the replies. Actually I meant upgrading to a 2070 SUPER. I have a 1440p 144hz monitor.
Thing is I have a second pc with a i3 8350k 4,5ghz and a gtx 780 plugged to a 1080p TV. I do play on both pc different games but the 780 is starting to show its limit. I usually upgrade my more powerful pc and then put the gear from that pc to my living room one hence the upgrade from the 1070ti to a 2070 super.

I'm then fully aware that a rtx 2060 super would be an upgrade already for a lesser cost. Another option would be to not touch the 1070ti but upgrade the 780 to a gtx1660super or a rtx 2060.

There's also the amd option rx5600xt/5700xt but one seems to be lottery with bios flash and both I read have infamous driver issues.

That 2c/4t chip isnt helping anything either.. undoubtedly that is putting a glass ceiling on that rig too.

For 1440p 144 hz... no less than a 2080 imo...

New cards should always be out in a year max.

I said new gen cards, there's a difference between new architecture and just a refresh, and those do not come every year.

But that still doesn't make sense. Think about it, GPU generations are two years apart at most. So one year after a generation is out everybody should stop buying GPUs, because something else is incoming.

Let me spell it out as clearly as possible: UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR SURE SOMETHING SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER IN PERFORMANCE OR PRICE IS COMING WITHIN 2-3 MONTHS, PLAYING THE WAITING GAME IS JUST DUMB.

the thing is do you need to and do you want to, do you need RT , I keep asking myself the same thing and I keep coming up the the same no I don't, I have a 1080 with ekwb at the mo overclocked @2140 and its more than I need.

I'm also asking that question a lot recently since I feel like upgrading my GPU but I'm not sure if I actually need it or just want it cause reasons.

So I went trough my list of games that I want to play at some point and out of the whole list maybe 2-3 could really use an upgrade but the rest is fine with what I have currently.
If I really had to push it then I could probably even last this whole year with my current setup since I do not have high 'gaming' standards either.

I will end up upgrading eventually but now I know that I don't have to hurry that much and already pushed my GPU upgrade further down my priority list.

On the side note of High/Ultra settings,I also have a hard time noticing any real difference in most games and I did get new glasses ~5 months ago.

Thanks all for the replies, nice to read different poeple's opinion about this.
Thing is in October I'm building a rig for my son but he doesn't need high end gear since he'll play low spec games and I've planned to give him the gtx780 I currently have in my second rig. So before october I'll need to get a new GPU. Whether a cheaper one to replace the 780 (1660 super, rtx2060, rx5600xt) or like I said replace my 1070ti (rx5700xt, 2070 super, why not 2060 super but that last one is priced similar to a rx5700xt, but with less driver problems probably).

But the 2070 Super is like a slower 2080...

The 2070 super will be a decent upgrade and the cpu will be matched well with that card.
i7 7700k vs i9 9900k in games with a 2080ti the difference was marginal.

No guarantees on that and prices are very good because of the AMD/NVidia competition going on. It's a great time to upgrade right now. IF you can afford it, the get the 2080s for your main system and pass your 1070 to the second system(which BTW could use a new CPU, midrange quad core would be good). However a 2070s is a solid card for 1440p gaming. It just depends on what you can/want to afford.

Currently there's a KFA (Galax) RTX 2060 Super for 400€ or a Gigabyte RX5700XT for 409€ or a Gigabyte RTX2070 Super for 559€.

The best deal seems to be the RX5700XT by far but I'll lose the G Sync on my 1440p... big deal ?

5700xt nitro+, 1.087x over stock 2060fe + 3.3% oc = 12,2% over stock 2060 fe

Pailt 2060 super 1.063x of stock 2060 super fe +6% oc=12.7% over sdtock 2060fe

they're the same cards in a normal,extensive testing suite,pcgh came up with same results in a 21 game review across thrree resolutions.
with 2060s you're getting stable drivers and a lick of RT,very much usable at 1440p with DLSS,which is getting better itself with the new version.

In the premium teir, lower teir(Gsync compatible) is effectively just Variable rate screens and could work , some were freesync originally after all.

Correct, but his monitor the PG279 is not compatible with vanilla Vrr or Freesync.
