Google Plans Service to Store Users' Data

Google Inc. wants to offer consumers a new way to store their files on its hard drives, in a strategy that could accelerate a shift to Web-based computing and intensify the Internet company's competition with Microsoft Corp. Google is preparing a service that would let users store on its computers essentially all of the files they might keep on their personal-computer hard drives - such as word-processing documents, digital music, video clips and images, say people familiar with the matter. The service could let users access their files via the Internet from different computers and mobile devices when they sign on with a password, and share them online with friends. It could be released as early as a few months from now. Planned pricing for the new service isn't known.

Can't most peeps just install filezilla and run a FTP server? I used to do that all the time. And with a fast net connection and a IP that almost never changes it is free, fast, secure, and your friends can upload all sorts of crap to share with others.


Almost like a small, secure P2P network.

I use yahoo mail, and I never get any spam. One yahoo acct. gets u more than email aswell.

note the ability search through the mail, note the multiple services all hooked up, note the organization, all of those pm notifcations expanded would be a lot. the (45) would mean that i have 45 different emails in that stack, and that saves me the trouble of having to scrool through 45 different emails, all of which are related and from the same sender. note the amount of space as well, and the spam filters are excellent. i get an average of 1 spam mail per 3 months. and that too, i just flag as spam, and google is notified of that email and it poofs away to my spam folder.

True I was commenting against everything else, music, documents, applications, etc. Whoever bore the idea that ppl should trust the hdd in a system they cant even look at must of been smoking a lot of bong.
