A friend of mine likes to do a lot of "dumpster diving" for computer parts and such. He called me the other day to come take a look at his latest finds. Of the stuff were a few laptops, monitors, some desktops, and a few parts. He let me have this stuff along with testing out an 8800gt, 8600gt. Pics...

Tested it and all it would do was spin the fan at high speed, no display. I'm wondering if its just bricked and i could re-flash? of if its a no go.

Got a stock, OEM, ASUS 8600GT. 512MB DDR2 model. came out of an HP. the blower fan in it was broken, so I took the one from my PNY (does weird characters and symbols on screen, if anyone knows a fix let me know, its DDR3 and 256 but would be better i think) and jerry-rigged it in. it runs HOT. 53C idle. I ran HL2 on it and it played well... was afraid to look at peak temp tho lol. I think ima just pull the shroud and fan and rig a 60mm on top the heatsink. This one my friend will get, to replace his hd2400pro. (which i may take to replace my grandmother's fx5200, then mohawk angel can have my newly aquired radeon 9200se, and the 5200 will go in a for sale rig lol)

Got this Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, installed fine and all the buttons and such work great!

It spins really fast and makes a lot of noise, but no airflow...

A pretty neat Home Theater power strip. everything works fine on it except for the amp and voltage meters.

the clear arcrylic gives it a nice look, will be even better when i fix the drive bay covers. I like the bubbles in the plastic on the LEDs... makes it look liquid cooled lol

Temp monitor in deg F. tiny vent holes for the front fans. I may "join" them in pairs to add more airflow. front USB, MIC, headphone, firewire

Front LEDs with the lights off... they're not too bright but just right... phone cam makes em seem brighter.

A pretty nice clear panel with fan dead center. I may cut out a larger hole... you can also see the top clear panel too. It has vents along the top edge on both sides. I also like the handle on the side clear panel. Its strong enough i can carry the computer, but it bends a tad on the panel. I think its just for removing the panel tbh. If they were on both panels that would be sweet.

The top and side panels have nice blue Antec LED fans.

2 80mm fan ports in back... the case also has a firewire cable that runs from the front panel thru the case, out a pci bracket, and out the back... I'm guessing its for plugging in a firewire port on an audigy card so it'll be up front.

4 80mm fan ports up front... I wonder what size fan i can fit using only the 4 outermost mounting holes... 120, 200mm?

The blue LED fans are Antecs, 80mm.. they have pretty good airflow and don't make too much noise.

The insides of the case... Specs of the rig are... MSI skt478 mobo with a Sis 650gl chipset (sis 315 graphics), ati 9200se 128mb, 512mb ddr 333, some maxtor hdd, 300watt psu, celeron 2.6ghz 400fsb. I plan on upgrading to a 3ghz P4 if i can and up to 1gb ram. maybe a 250gb hdd and linux of some kind, a dvd drive, and the fx5200 and i'll put it in a diff case and use the other for my next build.

lol i was thinking of that as a cpu idle...

I guess that's a normal temp for the 8 series.

my msi 9600gt OC is running at 39c idle XD

about to check...

took the cooler off and everything seems ok... maybe a bad bios flash or something...

I appreciate a good bit of dumpster diving! :toast:

Shame the MSI skt478 is an OEM board. Otherwise I'd say overclock it till it catches fire.

My best bit of dumpster diving was a 4200+ on an MSI board with a 350W PSU. It's currently my HTPC.

the guy made a deal with me... i could keep this stuff (minus the 8600gt) if i upgraded and sold the computer he gave me (split 50/50) and also i'd get my pick of the laptops if i fixed em all for him to sell, i think they're mostly nettops, i already cleaned out viruses in one. he has some monitors too, but they only stay on for a sec before cutting to standby... dunno why

Thats cool, my case is the one in my system specs under the gf SLi rig < It has the same clear side panel, identical. The front panel on mine is more basic, it just changes colours all the time.

the guy also has on old dell with dual xeon sockets. it has one cpu and a set of ram in it. I'd love to get that thing workin lol. it doesn't power on... thinking its a bad psu.

a friend of mine had a similar case too that did the changing colors... was a cool effect when the two were in sync but for some reason they got outta sync and is just annoying to him now lol

woulda been badass if that 8800gt was working lol

It does and moreover the guy gave me a Celeron 1000A and told me it was good overclocker. Was sceptical because i had already a 1200 100fsb i could OC to 1.34 and 112fsb. Dang the 1000A is able to overpass the 1200 going at 1.33gigs and 133fsb :rockout:

Oh and no more lag on youtube :p
