Got the Asus RX 580 4GB

I got verrrrrrrrrrry tired of waiting for the Sapphire Nitro+ to arrive. And the current stock of available 580s were running out fast. So I got the last 1 piece that was available. Also, I wasn't feeling very comfortable with the warranty rules and record of the Sapphire distributor here. I have had good experience with Asus so far. It would have been nice to get those LEDs and backplate etc, but the all-black design of this card really impressed me. Now I have a "complete" system after what seems like an eternity. The only thing I regret a little bit is the monitor. It's a very good one, with 75Hz, 1ms, Freesync etc, but I keep wondering if a 144Hz monitor would have been better - sync or not. Anyway, I tested this card for a couple of days and it's doing a great job so far.

No he got good,i bought the MSI Gaming X 480 8Gb and gta 5 was bad playing at max..for a gpu like this 8 gb is to much,marketing

And I know people with the 480 that exceed 5GB. It's not just for marketing when you actually utilize the card properly.

did you try overclocking it yet, and what kind of memory does your card have? Hynix vs Elpida/Micron can make a big difference when overclocking the 4Gb cards.

Depending on the resolution I wouldn't worry much about the memory.

I dunno if it makes any difference with his monitor which is a fantastic fit for this card btw..

I have a similar system.. only difference is the CPU (4770s) and a 8gb 580...
Find some benches if you want to try to see if there is an actual difference... I dunno if there will be at 1080p

I was not impress about it ..reason i sell it,more watt,high heat disipation,if not trust me,look in show of purchase thread,and was msi gaming x..he got wise 4gb since is not 2k gpu

It can do 1900x1200 perfectly fine and quite a few games at 1440p. It is quite well a good performer.

Also 1440p is not 2k. 2k is barely bigger than 1080p. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

You are correct it is closer to 2.5K and is quite often referred to as that.

4Gb however is not enough ram on those GPU's IMO I had a pair of the 8GB 480's at higher clocks than a 580 and ran over 4GB in almost every single game.

It's Elpida. No I haven't tried OC yet because I don't yet have any games which need that. All the ones I have tried are doing above 200FPS. Beside, I have seen that these are not very OC-friendly like the green teams' and a few megahertz barely makes any improvement. The power consumption and heat, however, rises exponentially. It's not a very power-efficient or cool card to begin with, and the ambient temps here get >45C. Interestingly, though, this particular one seems to be abnormally cool for it's kind. I only managed 70C while heavy gaming. Didn't do any benchmarks yet, but planning to try the Heaven and Valley sometime.

If I were to get a new GPU it'd be the 4GB version, I wouldn't think the extra €50 or so to be worth it. If I was serious about gaming I would go for it though.

They are good for 1080p at very high/ultra settings but I don't think you'll really need a freesync monitor for that since it's probably not hitting much over 60 fps at very high/ultra settings anyway.

Edit: OK, freesync will help ofc with drops lower than the usual monitor refresh-rate.

The RX 480/580 can do awesome 1080p and pretty good 2560x1080. I had a 4GB model, and it was more than enough for 30+ FPS very high/ultra settings. Except on textures, you will find almost no setting walls whatsoever. I did have to reduce texture detail in some games, though. The 4GB is the best bang for buck, but there are downsides to the memory pool.

And Freesync is especially important in this card, because with maximum settings, in quite a few games, the FPS will be around 40, 50 ish, and Freesync gives unbelievable smoothness (most Freesync displays support the technology down to around 35 Hz, less if you "overclock" the display.) I'd say Freesync's smoothness serves as a virtual +10 FPS on your gaming experience, when at 30 FPS.

I now have a GTX 1070, and I can say that games felt smoother in the RX, solely because of Freesync. No screen tearing, no stuttering, heaven.

Really hate the G-Sync/ Freesync lock.

Regarding 4K in Crossfire, I wouldn't bother with that, ASOT. Most games don't feature support these days; most times you'll have a single card pushing frames. Check our own reviews and you'll see =) Or just do a quick Google search.

It's just a matter of how high your own standards are and how you adjust the ingame settings, I (prefer)play my games at 60 or higher.
I do have a G-Sync monitor though.

Not really standards, more perception. I'd always prefer eye candy to the max in place of 60+ FPS. Now, I'm not sure I would make that choice anymore, but I can actually get the best of both worlds with my setup now

OK, freesync will help ofc with drops below your monitor's refresh-rate.

Actually, the "sync" comes in handy when you CAN"T push out too many FPS. That's when the monitor drops it's refresh rate to match your fps. If it gets higher fps than the rr, that's where nvidia's "fast sync" is supposed to help. I hope AMD does something similar too. It will help a lot with the e-sports without a super fast >144Hz display. I am consistently getting >200fps in warface even with AA. And, I have managed to see VERY high FPS in TR (not the "rise of") and cod remastered. Well above 75. I guess the freesync will come in handy with the latest AAA games like Crysis 3 etc. We don't really need too much fps (>75) in those, do we?
