i think i rememebr reading that a better "gothic 4" is Risen, but i never played it. I played and loved gothic and gothic 2, but could never get thru gothic 3.

If you like Gothic, give it a try to The Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Oblivion games. They are similar to Gothic and also very addictive and open to explore. If you haven't tried them yet...

I will be buying the german version when I am there next week. Piranha Byte RPGs are the only rpgs that I have ever loved (although G3 sucked ass). G4 is of course not a PB game and therefore I expect to be very dissapointed. From what i have read, G4 offers a very linear world when compared to the other Gothic games and Risen. But the Gothic label will sucker me in just one more time.

did you really just recommend morrowind and oblivion? those may be two of the most well known games on this site ;P

how are the bugs with gothic 4 I wonder? Gothic 3 was unplayable because of them. Literally unplayable.

i remember the launch bugs - well. but that was because i had none of them (save one - which i found and posted a solution for on jowoods site... the font hack)

it was entirely playable and fun for me... though i know there were tons who could not even start a game. let's hope the experience in 4 will be more... balanced.

Starcraft II did the same as far as I know.

Will probably play it, but I don't expect too much as it's not the devs from the original Gothic series. Risen was a very good spiritual successor though :D

Do report back after a good few hours of gameplay and tell us how it compares to the original Gothic/Risen games. I have read a lot of discouraging reports of how it has been turned into a ver linear hand-led affair, with a beautiful but totally vacuous world (i.e. like the uebershit Oblivion).

Also be nice to know how it runs on your rig, in terms of settings and the frames per second.

I loved Risen, so I'm eager to see what peoples thoughts are on this. I have no rig currently but have just got a new job so will be looking to build one around christmas/early next year, let me know how this mofo runs or your various setups :)

How is the gameplay? Is the character customization awesome? Are skills oblivion-style or do you have a tree? crafting system? Any major bugs?

Its some sort of skill tree, you get skill points after lvlup and u can use it on building up skills. No customization for character on game start.didnt get to crafting yet.havnt seen any bugs atleast in interface or graphic gliches for first 30mins of play.
About gameplay its basic gothic movements, jumping, sword swing, bow shootin.nothing special in it.

I've been waiting for this game to release. Thanks for the reminder. I will grab it tonight!

Gothic 3 was awesome and though many complained of bugs it was more than playable and I enjoyed it till they patched it to shit. The last patch they put on it ruined it for me. So I played without the patch. A lot of people cried about how hard it was too and they nerfed a lot of the creatures...bs IMO.

Anyways...Gothic 4 looks hella sweet.

I grabbed the demo last night. Voice acting is a bit weak almost child like at times but the game looks pretty damn good and fighting is much better than Gothic 3. Runs smooth too when maxed out!

I tried a little bit of playin game.my settings are 1920x1200 all on max except for shadows.because when i put shadows on max starts slideshows.game runs mostly on 30-40fps.sometims drops till 20-25 but is playable.graphics are beautiful.didnt do any missions yet,but I can say I like it.

Considering the high spec rig that you have, that is absolutely stinking performance!

Looks like I may sit this one for a year or two until I have a rig that can max it (or should I say, until a rig comes available that can max it). I only play games with a solid 60FPS and nothing less.
