How great will be the bottleneck with a E6420@3.2 @ @ 1600 FSB DDR2 800 and a 7850?
I´m expecting that the prices of i7 come down a bit further, and then I'll update the rest of my equipment.
Can I play so far in 1080p with a frame rate acceptable?

What are you trying to play? And that c2d at 3.2 won't be that bad. How much system memory do you have? And complete list of specs wouldn't hurt.

Oh, sorry, Asus Commando, 4 * 1Gb on (4-4-4-10) @ 800, E6420 2.13 4MB cache@3.2 WC, NOX Apex 700W, Sangsung F3 SATA II 500GB and a Sapphire 4830 512MB.
I like to play almost all games, mostly FPS and racing games, but no RPG or MMO.

So do you have a 4830 or a 7850? And yes what games specifically?

yes get the 7850 and also if you can swing it upping the amount of system memory wouldn't hurt either.

hi can i ask the same thing? i have a 8400 @ 3.6 and 2gb ram, i want to buy a 7970. i know, the ram is too less, sometimes the games crashes because of low memory. eventually will the c2d be a bottleneck? i compared it to a friends x4 965 and the frames are average the same...

The lack of cores will hurt on some games, but as far as applications that use two or less cores, the bottleneck is minimal.

i think tomshardware do something like that, but also as Eroker say it's depend what application u use, game like BC2 and BF3 need quad core CPU
