Gpu die damaged?

I cleaned off my gpu die using q tips and isopropyl alcohol and when I was done I noticed what looks like marks. Either from old thermal paste that won't go or it may be scratches although you I'm not sure exactly

Do you think the gpu die is still usable, or is this damage too important?

It's just residue. Try using an alcohol wipe to finish the job.

Hmmm I'm not sure. I have used a non abrasive cloth to finish it off and it doesn't seem to want to go

That's fine its not the die, its the package thats scraped the die sits within that package and is a few millimetres within it ( though this varies), that package is a heat transfer and protective feature.

Thank God. I'm used to seeing youtube tutorials where prior to installing the water block they clean off that gpu core and it looks super clean and pretty whereas mine looks like some grand ma's 90 year old skin lol

Well I just double checked , it would take a crack to do it in , scratches won't likely go deep enough unless you really tried lol.
And im never as careful as to use Qtips i just get some bog roll and scrub the crap off then alcy wipe with the same.

It doesn't work. If I use the forum "insert image" tool I get an image with a red x and nobody can see it

I only manage to make it work when I'm on pc. Because on pc I can copy the linked bb code from imgur and then it works

Next time I'll read exactly what the brackets say when I use bb code and I'll know what to put in on mobile to make it work.

You use "img" inside of [ ] add image url and end with "/img" inside of [ ] to put an image in posts.

It does appear that imgur images do not work properly and do deliver a red X, I would suggest you use TPUs uploader in the future. http://www.techpowerup.org/upload

They both have the same Thermal Conductivity rating, so both "should" perform near identical to the other. Only difference I see, is that the Gelid paste is thicker, and may not spread as well without using the spatula provided.

I believe it should have the file extension to make it work, works for me every time I use it.

To the OP, I had far deeper scratches on my R9 290 (custom cooler was shoddily made), worked fine.

Thanks. It's my first time water cooling a gpu inside a custom loop so i feel far more insecure than with CPUs where I've got lots more experience

Ill post some pictures when I'm done installing the block
