GPU fan not spinning

Hi there

I got a a problem with my HD79
GPU fan not spinning at all. So I take it off and replace it with another one, but still not works
i tried to connecting the fan directly to power supply via adapter (4PINGPU To 2PIN ) and it is works :wtf:

Is that mean the fan connectors is not working?

Well based off the information it seems like the fan header on the card is not working anymore because if the fans spin up when plugged into power yet will not on the card that seems to be the logical problem.

Try checking the contacts and cleaning or seeing if they need a bit of adjusting. Could be one of the connections inside is damaged on the card.

Sounds dead, how ever could try afterburner and over ride the fan settings to a higher speed for lower temps just to see if it's really dead.

What is the exact model number of the Graphics Card?
Does the card work apart from the fan not spinning?
Is it seated properly in the PCI-e slot, and all power cables connected securely?

It's give me a display, I am still able to play games, but it is overheat and drop fps too much. I tried to change fan, but useless. GPU fan still working when connected directly to PSU

I try AMD Catalyst to enforce fan spinning at 100%, but nothing work at all. everything is installed as should to be. Even i change the motherboard to another one with same result.

Maybe it's time for a 3rd party cooler, due to the card you have make sure it will fit it, although AC have been using paste that's permanent and you may want to avoid that and if that's so you will have to find other heatsinks. Personally AC these days have gotten really cheap in build quality.

What i did with my 6970 i was actually able to keep part of the cooler on the card while fitting a cooler for the GPU. Have a AC cooler on my card now and thankfully XFX allowed me to mod the plate so the cooler would fit on as i did not want to stick some thing to the card permanently, in fact they sent me the whole cooler lol. So now i have the original plate on my 290X with the AC cool without the shroud and use the bracket that comes with the MK-13 lol.

Maybe it be just cheaper to buy a new card ?, or maybe you can find some were you can get a MK-26 from http://www.prolimatech.com/en/products/detail.asp?id=2484&subid=2565#showtab

I had one of the two fans fail on my TwinFrozr 6870. The bearing seized right up. MSI wanted me to ship the card back to them and have me pay the cost to ship it back when it cost less for me to buy a replacement fan on fleebay. You may be able to replace just the fan.

even if i got 3rd party cooler i will still not able to use GPU connectors 4PIN PWM. This will cause me another problem with control fan speed to operate according to temperature.

I was thinking is it possible to fix it? Or Is there any possibility to connect GPU fan to CPU fan connector ?

Not really and some of the AC coolers connect to the card it self and normally have the option of being plugged in a molex which still those fans on a AC are not loud and will be much more silent than the stock ref cooler.

I know 120mm fans i use on mine are much more silent than that stock reference cooler.

i just stuck a 120mm and an 80mm on mine to replace the fan, leaving the stock heatsink on there.

Wire the fan up directly as you have, or find a third party fan that uses external power.

that's a good point about making sure it stays cool during load.... you might use a fan controller to manually speed it up when you want to play a game, or just a really large cooler/fan that runs full speed (this is how it was many years ago, no fan ramps on a zalman vf-700cu for example)

the only other idea is some complex system of hardware that can read the software temp sensors

the problem is speeding the fan up during load unless the size of the custom cooler/fan is so large that it is capable of cooling 100% gpu load below 90 degrees

I hate to spoil the party, but I don't think any of the suggestions here will work, unless @Mohammed didn't link the right seller thread. Those are all AMD reference blowers, and those do not have normal case fans. It'll be really hard to find a fan that is about the same size and can push huge amounts of air laterally across the heatsink. Zip-tying it directly onto the heatsink will probably be a not-so-good idea because the heatsink is relatively tiny and isn't designed to have air blow down onto it. Tahiti cards need lots of surface area to cool.

You could give the Kraken G10 a shot but it's pretty ghetto and will cost you extra for an AIO. "GPU fan working when connected to PSU" What kind of connector is it? Is it the squat 4-pin that is (annoyingly) not actually a 4-pin? If it's a normal 4-pin connector could you extend it and connect it to your motherboard?

people are basically saying use the stock heatsink itself, but replace the fan with whatever. i did it on my 7970 just fine for a few months (i've gone back to the stock cooler, albeit with one fan on a manual controller now)

GPU fan working when i connected directly by adapter 2PIN to PSU, So i found the problem from GPU itself not let fan to sniping, i tried MSI afterburner to fores fan to sniping but useless.

If I follow correctly you want to attach a PWM 4 pin fan to your GPU, then I'd suggest the above adapter for simplicity and cost.

Obviously this requires the GPU fan header to be working, if not all you need is a fan and a mobo header.

, easy solution is taking the plastic crap off and sticking a 120mm fan on it with zip tie's.

or wiring the stock fan to a controller, either manual or automatic. Just set it to the loudest setting you're comfortable with and forget about it.
