I've had my 2 8800GTS 512MB cards since about the start of 2008. They never gave me any issues up to a few months back when I had my old computer setup and I was using XP.

About two months back I upgraded my CPU, MB and RAM and moved into Vista 64. I don't OC my video cards, one just doesn't OC well while the other OCs pretty good. I have my CPU (Phenom II x4 940) OC'ed from stock 3.0 to 3.45, running stable. I've been too lazy to screw around more to push it further....anyways -

Sometimes during games I can play them for hours on end and I have no issues and other times I get 10-30 seconds into the game and the whole screen artifacts, freezes and generally just locks up there. Sometimes my computer will BSOD to a memory dump, then the computer will restart.

I'm guessing one of the cards is starting to crap out on me. Would anyone know of a good way to figure out which? Or maybe any other suggestions I could try doing?

What drivers are you running? What is the BSOD code (0x000000xxx???), you can go into Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Reliability and Performance, Reliability Monitor. There it will have red X's that will show crashes, failed drivers, games, etc. Finding BSOD codes can help with issues. How are your temps on your components? The 8800GTX 512's I've dealt with have been solid performers and ran pretty warm, I usually crank the fan speed up to 60-70% using precision to fix that. How is your case for airflow? Have you cleaned the inside of the case and components of dust?

You could disable SLI and run each card solo on your rig, game and stress it with a program like Furmark, see which one reacts negatively.

if you suspect one of the cards, i would suspect the one that doesn't overclock well.

However i agree with Kursah and try that first.

It most likely is a driver issue as any x64 OS ive found can have random driver issues with certain programs.

Temps don't run past 65 most of the time and when I put in my new MB, CPU and RAM I cleaned everything out - which I do at least once, if not twice a year.

I checked the Reliability and Performance Monitor and there are red Xs that are listed for:

1 OS Failure - 0x000000116

3 Application failurs - Gears of War terminating (I found you cannot run it from your DVD in Vista, which was causing the crashes) - Folding@Home application locked up once - a SETUP.EXE_Installshield failed

4 Misc Failurs - Disruptive shutdown (turned off via power button due to computer game crashing)

After a bit of looking around, seems that others (in XP and Vista) have had this BSOD error before - having to do with video drivers.

I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling my drivers and see if that fixes the problem.

So far so good. I uninstalled my current video drivers (182.50) and I tried installing the newest 185.xx WHQL drivers....

However, I was getting unsatisfactory results and a lot of minor issues that made gaming annoying. So I went back to 182.50 and I haven't had any issues yet.:toast:

BSOD's are more likely from something else going bad, such as system ram or overheating.

You cant rule out the PSU here either, if the game never crashes outside of gaming power issues are rather likely.

If you wanna know if a cards bad, simply run with just one. if you still get issues on one card, you know that cards bad. if you get issues on both cards, its ram/something overheating. If you get issues on NEITHER card, then its likely power :)
