PT Nuke?? I've even read sumtin bout water wetter or some other additives n such.

so in other words. use distilled and add a dye, anticorrosion, and some other agents?

no dont add coloring at all thats why i said get colored tubing if you must have color. and PT nuke is a anti corrision biocide fomula

http://www.petrastechshop.com/pepcobi1.html

Id also look at getting a EK Full Waterblock for improved memory and VRM cooling

Those full blocks r just so damn expensive for me rite now.The MCW80's R only $50 a pop.

The heatsinks for the vrm's and the ram are $25 a pop. When i do the math, its bout $250

cheaper than getting the EK's.Dont get me wrong. I would give my left nut to have an

EK setup. Then again, i'm not keeping the 5870's forever either. The MCW's are "universal".

what kind of temps would i get from that vga cooler??

This was my findings on a review with a HOT card
http://www.silentpcreview.com/article1066-page1.html

Money talks when looking at watercooling, if you don't got the budget, don't bother trying it. Go with a few good air coolers and pocket the rest you were going to spend. IIRC, Tweaktown's review couldn't get the cooler on the card so I will look around further for you on good(possibly better) coolers.

Here's another
ZALMAN VF3000N Enter VGA Cooler with dual 92mm fan...
Altho little bit noisier and the GELID Icy vision cools a touch better.

dual bay huh. that would mean getting rid of my NZXT Sentry fan controler which takes up two 5.25" bays.

do the 5870 cores really get that hot that you cant run two in one loop?

No, myself personally would go with a triple rad just for the cards alone.

Personally I go for overkill - a quad for CPU and NB/SB cooling alone, then I can add a bit. The price difference between a 240 and a 480 is not that big. I would second Jr and say go for at least a 360.

My reasoning is simple, you want quiet. It's either that or maybe a 140.2 but you're not wanting to do an external setup. Could get a couple fan adapters like this...
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9...m_Fan_Adapter_-_UV_Blue_BP-FA140120-UVBL.html

Just to get it to mount to the case.
it may be an option though
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9...ealth_280_Radiator_-_Black.html?tl=g30c95s930

so double stacked 120's like this:

whith three fans in push pull config wont cool as much as a 240?

shouldn't these be enough to cool the 5870's then?

Yah but seriously would look into a 120.3. It would work just better and be just as much. I'm still stuck in air cooling mode tho also LOL

That's cool. I'm wasn't speaking from experience. I was just going from the recommendation of many (and I mean many) experienced water coolers who said not to use colored coolants. It's possible that the formulations are better nowadays. If I did decide to use one of those coolants I would make sure to change it every 6 months though, and that's not something I want to do. I don't want to deal with the added labor, expense, and added risks from using that stuff. But that's just me.

Good luck with your project! :toast:

Swiftech MCp355 pump w/ a XSPC Res top is a awesome setup and should be more then enough for a pump and res combo

Also ditch the colored coolant and get colored tubing and then go to the store and get some distilled water and order some PT nuke off petrastechshop. Feser coolant scums up your blocks, pump and tubing while the distilled water runs cooler and much cleaner

I have used all of Feser's liquid and the red is the only one I have ever seen any particulates in...something about the red. All others have shown no signs of any accumulation in a years time.

seriously this is coming from some one that has water cooled 2 5870's and is going to again.

im using a thick 360 intop of the case and another 120 on the back, this is enough to cool 2 5870's and an amd 965 @ 4.0 easily. i get idle temps of 28-32 on the 5870's and the same on the 965. load temps are around 38 - 42c on the cpu and around 45c on both 5870's.

i used a vario d5 pump and 2 rx series xspc rads and normal 5.25 res. i had no problems cooling the components at all!

i also agree with others here, dont use coloured feser or some crap, just buy either distilled water or de-ionied water. if you want colour buy coloured tubing.

for cooling the 5870's i would pick up 2 EK 5870 fullcover blocks, second hand they should be preety cheep and be your best solution for cooling them

i c ur point. i'm currently looking at some used EK's.what has me in a bind is what i'll do later with those blocks when i go to upgrade to newer cards.
