GPU Problems after driver crashing

I was playing overwatch and was experiencing driver crash issues. The first few times the gpu recovered ,then the whole system would lock up, forcing me to reset. I got weird artifacting on screen at first, which would go away after a few seconds (checkerboard pattern, but with red squares about 10 by 10 pixels). Now i can't get the system to boot into windows with the nvidia driver installed. It will only boot into windows only if i uninstall the nvidia driver and use the default video driver that displays the GPU as "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". I've had to disable windows updates with registry edits, because it would automatically download the nvidia driver and lock my system up completely.

Specs:
i7 3930k
Asus GTX 680 Direct CUII 2GB
Gigabyte X79UD-3 1.0

I've tried:
Uninstalling using DDU and reinstalling the driver
Reinstalling windows
Flashing VBIOS using nvflash
Clearing CMOS by removing motherboard battery

I've sent Asus a RMA request, but i hold out little hope since my system is 5-6 ish years old and probably not covered anymore. Will probably have to just shell out 230 euros for a 1060 it seems .Sux :(

If you have any ideas on how to fix it, please reply, thx

Looks a lot like VRAM death. If you can get it to run, one option may be underclocking memory. But this will harm performance and is a bandaid.

Doubt the oven will help.
