GPU shows fine in Device Manager and GPU-Z, passes Unigine testing, yet can not be flashed (adapter not found)

I am beginning to run out of ideas. My Asus RX580 boots normally, everything seems fine, but when I try to flash to original bios AtiFlash can not see that adapter. I tried even AtiFlash from DOS bootable drive, same happens.

Why are you trying to flash?

I used this card for mining for several years, and now wanted to use it for gaming.

I somehow managed to flash to original bios by using amdvbflash, but am now experiencing another problem. Core clock is throttling immediately, even before GPU reaches maximum temperature (which is slightly above 70 degrees).

Replace thermal compound/pads ,also you are having problems due to mining abuse of the card.

This is why i dont like mining because it damages hardware

If someone uses a card with mining solution and above all he uses a overclocking solution, then yes we have a "raped" card.
In my case i am using a modded BIOS but...i use all my cards underclocked and undervoltaged.
So it depends on the user

You seemed to use a setting like i did (i used it @850) but the bottom line is : yes the BIOS files are tampered in order to comply with the mining programs.
That and the fact that the room where they were stored could or could not have been with low temps could lead to a high temps arround core and memory.
So what @eidairaman1 told you to try to switch the thermal pads and paste is more then logical.

Sure, I will try that. Just I wouldn't expect throttling to start immediately if thermals were the problem.

Understand this, I and Impero have been dealing with users coming here with RX 400/500 Series cards with sob stories from mining.

Don't tell me that you ran the card at those settings and claim the card is not abused, when mining does abuse the cards because you are now saying temps suddenly spike.

We are providing you 2 solutions, which is to flash the stock bios and to replace thermalpads and thermalpaste.

I've given this solution time and time again since before 2018, to great success, bear in mind not all cards recover from mining abuse.

I have done this a long time so take the advice you asked for help about or go elsewhere.

I appreciate your advice, just I have never said temps spike now. They are quite normal, and rise slowly. That is why I am confused why throttling starts immediately.

I mined with several hundred cards, and this is the first time I have experienced something like this, but will replace paste and pads for sure to see if it will help.

Keep in mind that @eidairaman1 and all other forum mates who try to help will do their best to give you the best advice.
But there are always random factors which could lead to an unexpected outcome.
Especially when it comes to a "raped" card

IIRC, I heard that mining possibly don't even need as much GPU power as today's games! Looks like miners in fact turned down the core frequency, while raising the VRAM frequency. VRAM doesn't suck power like OC'ing the core to the highest possible. This looks even more true with Ethereum!

Yes, you are correct.
But in order to squeeze as much as you can from VRAM, usually you set the voltage and clocks higher.
That leads in most of the cases to an early retirement of the card
As i said earlier, for example i underclocked and undervoltaged my cards.
BUT...not all the miners agree to my way , as the matter fact they do exactly opposite.

It's possible that even GTA V gives more of a core workout than mining!
