GPU's Temperature throttles at 70C after 7 months of use

My Laptop's GPU (Nvidia MX130) nowadays throttles whenever I play games like Valorant and Dota 2, the sad part is that this laptop is fairly new, I only bought this new laptop 7 months ago.

During the first 4 months of use I was able to play Valorant with all video settings low but with Anti-Aliasing on MSAA 4x while on Dota 2 on Medium Settings, and I was able to play both games with a stable 60 FPS regardless of how long I played (With Charger hooked on the laptop everytime).

But now I've been noticing this around November, my GPU starts to throttle at a low temperature which is 70C, GPU Clocks go down from 900-1100mhz to 405.0mhz and Memory Clock from 400-1252 to 202.5mhz and when it throttles FPS suddenly goes down from 60+fps to 30fps and after a few seconds fps goes back up again and then the process repeats itself again and again while playing the game.

Laptop Specs :
Brand : LENOVO
System Model : 81WA, Ideapad Slim 3 14IMl05
Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10210U CPU @ 1.60GHz, 2112 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
System RAM : 8gb
Graphics Card : Nvidia MX130 (Driver Version : 460.89 Latest)

I have tried updating the graphics card to the latest version
I have tried having getting the stock version of the graphics card the day I got the laptop when it was still working good
I also tried a fresh install of my graphics card and removed every piece of the current one using DDU
I have tried downgrading my BIOS to the stock version
I did a full scan for virus using Windows Defender and it didn't find anything suspicious
and.... none of these worked.

My guess is the thermal paste has worn off after 7 months of use?

I have researched a lot regarding this issue and I saw their VRMs burnt off.
Which I hope did not happen in my laptop because it is just new and I use it in my online class.

I have attached a screenshot and Logs from GPUz below.
I also attached a screenshot of my temperature limits.

or it needs dusting out if the heatsinks are full of dust that'll make it heat up more

@timothy1430 - Your problem is common. You buy a laptop, it initially works great and then the manufacturer releases a BIOS update for the GPU and sets an absurdly low GPU throttling temperature. 70°C is a joke for a GPU. Not sure what this temperature was originally but your GPU-Z screenshot shows what it is now. 70°C. Pathetic.

This obviously kills performance. There is no need for Lenovo to do this. Complain to Lenovo. It was one of their updates that wrecked your laptop and has made it unusable.

Yeah I guess, when I bring it to the shop I'll make sure to tell them to clean off the dust.

Is there anyway I could increase the temperature limit? I have tried downgrading the stock bios, it worked for like 1 day no thermal throttling but after that it just returned again.
I also tried ASUS GPU Tweak II but it has to be open all the time and sometimes it just randomly resets temp limit back to 70 after awhile.

And Lenovo's Support is kind of useless because one time I had an issue with this laptop's keyboard and they never replied. (But after a couple of researches I found out that this laptop's keyboard really just has a limitation)

The GPU-Z screenshot shows that the Default Temperature Limit is 90°C. Perhaps if Lenovo set this to 85°C, that would be reasonable and understandable. Setting the Temperature Limit to 70°C is just stupid. Be prepared to sell it and shop elsewhere next time.

Clean install Windows.

If the laptop has been used for a long time at a temperature of >= 80°C-90°C.
Thermal paste can be replaced at a service center, or by yourself.

video settings low but with Anti-Aliasing on MSAA 4x...
Nvidia the driver has its own settings. Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings

It is possible to disable MX130 and use Intel® UHD Graphics for 10th Gen Intel® Processors ?

So.. theres no other way to set temps back but to sell it?

Clean install Windows.
I would but since im in the middle of my college classes, This will have to be my last option.

Yeah, I'll try to go to a shop instead to get the thermal paste replaced since I am inexperienced and I might break my laptop.

But if I disable the Nvidia MX130 and instead use the integrated GPU, I think the performance will significantly be worse.

Okay, I have attached a log of my system information below.

All the rest is wasted time.

You can check the temperature.
I've never had processors 'U".
Processors like 'H' work well with programs like 'Dota 2'.
It just needs to be noted in the settings Nvidia Control Panel : Preffered graphics processor.
It's easy to bring everything back.

Its a 15w processor, and maybe dust build up in the months you have had it.

sorry if this has already been covered.I only scanned the thread. It sounds as though the heat sink, which in notebooks is usually connected to both the gpu and the cpu can have one limiting the other. Try taking it apart and redoing the thermal paste on cpu and gpu.
I'd be interested to hear of the result... Good luck :toast:

But he did say he downgraded to the stock BIOS and this still happens.

70C is a joke but then the cooling is probably the primary joke which is why they set a temperature limit this low to mitigate RMAs.

Maybe he should be looking for someone to edit the bios... If thats whats happening.

For use Intel Graphics in games:
Windows 10
Setting -> System -> Display -> Graphics setting : "Browse"
Choosing 'a program', Options -> Power saving;
Otherwise used Nvidia for games.
I'm sorry for the mistake.

There is definitely something fishy if it goes to 71C at 405MHz clocks.
Even without the BIOS reset, try a thermal paste change. It should at least be able to go to max clocks without getting thermally throttled.

Sorry for the late reply, busy because of online schooling.
But thank you all your replies.

I'll try to reapply thermal paste as soon as possible and update you guys if it fixes it.

But so far the other solution that was able to stop my laptop from throttling is by using Asus GPU Tweak II, by changing the max temperature from 70 to 85, though the downside is sometimes it resets back to 70, so I have to reapply it and the program has to be opened all the time.

Could increasing my "Current Temp Limit" from 70 to 85 damage my laptop? Is it possible that GPU-Z could be showing a lower temperature than what the GPU is actually producing?

Windows 10
Setting -> System -> Display -> Graphics setting : "Browse"
Choosing 'a program', Options -> Power saving;
I'll keep this is mind, but I can't stand knowing my Integrated Graphics Card is having problems when it is supposed to handle such loads.

If you are a student you need to embrace... a larger view of the computer, not just the narrow dogmatic views of overclockering. Only through me will you gain a power greater than that of any thermal spreader.
TL;DR: you must concentrate on studying your books in order to defeat the trade union, don't sit idle while Mal'ganis claims more hapless overclocker souls from door to door.
