On the hot deals forum

"Spotted a hot deal? Looking for a good offer? Check here."

Should just be spot, or found, or something else.. spotted is a pattern.

"Spotted" is the past tense of the verb "to spot." Therefore in the context it works as it is.

While spotted is past tense and not just a pattern, I disagree that in this context it is necessarily correct. It really depends on the original question, since it is shorthand; "Did you spot a hot deal?", "Have you spotted a hot deal?".

It works either way, really. "Have you spotted" seems more formal and frankly is something I would expect more out of British English - feel free to correct me here, Britons.

The common practice of dropping the leading noun (in this case "you") and the word "Have" which would set it in the present perfect is seen a lot these days when writing a question. You will see it all over the intertubes in cases like "[Are you] Going to get a new card?"
Grammatically correct? No.

This is ironic. You're irked that someone has made a grammar typo, yet your example is actually incorrect as the grammer here is correct, lol.

I know where your coming from with illiterate posts though. I can't stand seeing the words "definitely" and "exercise" misspelled for example. As admin on my forums, I often fix irritating things like this, making sure to leave the meaning of the forum post intact.

You shouldn't alter peoples statements. It's censorship. And although I can respect and admire an educated mind sometimes people go to far with it. Not everyone has a grasp of the English language. I can cook really well. I don't go over other people's homes and tell them what there doing wrong. Even though it can be annoying when someone cooks the crap out of vegetables.

Fixing a spelling mistake isn't censorship, while preventing someone getting a message across is. That's why I said I make sure to leave the meaning of the forum post intact.

Examples of censorship include things like deleting someone's post, putting them on moderation for every post, deleting part of a post etc etc and it's something I don't like to do. One soon knows it when they're censored, whatever forum they post in.

Also, not all censorship is wrong of course. It all depends on the context.
