Later this month marks a very special anniversary for Rockstar Games: 20 years since the original release of Grand Theft Auto III — the game that set players loose in the sprawling, three-dimensional metropolis of Liberty City with a new and unprecedented sense of freedom and immersion. In addition to carving a new path for the open world genre, Grand Theft Auto III established Grand Theft Auto as a cultural phenomenon, alongside its two subsequent — and equally legendary — entries in the series, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Grand Theft Auto fans who have supported the games over the past two decades. Your love and appreciation for these games has helped push the Grand Theft Auto series forward with every iteration.

In honor of the upcoming anniversary, today we are excited to announce that all three games will be coming to current generation platforms later this year in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and the Rockstar Games Launcher on PC. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will feature across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals. We’re extremely excited to share more about these groundbreaking titles in the coming weeks — stay tuned!

To prepare for launch, we will begin removing existing versions of the classic titles from digital retailers next week.
For more information, please visit Rockstar Games Support. In addition, Grand Theft Auto:
The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be coming to iOS and Android in the first half of 2022.

Probably the move that makes the most sense for them, GTA6 might disrupt their GTA5 gold mine, but rereleasing these still brings in new single player revenue.

Yeah, fuck you Rockstar.
No remaster will ever beat the OG version of the game, so how about you don't be fucking assholes?

I have mixed feelings about this. On one side i really want to replay Vice City, there must be 15 years since i played it last. But i am afraid that stuff will be cut, censored, or modified to fit the "modern age" aka PC/woke crowd. Also i hope they keep all the great 80s music on the radio stations.

They had already removed some songs, so your best bet to play the original is piracy. I expected more songs will be getting the same treatment as doing the same deals as at launch doesn't seem likely. Who knows

I heard these are developed by the same studio who worked on the GTA SA mobile port which was an absolute disaster. Combined with them removing classic titles apparently? Yeah my hype died pretty quickly. Ffs. This is why piracy isn't all that bad.

I dont mind them releasing the remastered trilogy but what if I want to play the old ones that bring me back great memories. Rockstar made a really bad call removing the classics.

Question: Why can’t I find digital versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for sale?

I mean that was released back in like 2013, it was a pretty ridiculous thing to have a mobile port of that game to begin with, especially back then.

For me, this doesn't look like a bad thing, as I heard of inaccurate timing issues with the original version, because of stuff being tied to frame rate.

But, yes, TMK, this means no more GTA III on Windows 98 SE and the same with Vice City and San Andreas, which reportedly was the last one to run on good ol' Windows 98 SE!

I do hope that Take Two don't change too much, just like how Microsoft was cautious with Halo CE Anniversary, where they didn't change the entire HUDs just for the sake of change, IIRC.

They don't mention Steam though...

If I buy it I prefer it on Steam.

Ofcourse I'd prefer GOG above Steam....

But I'll think that'll never happen unfortunately.
