I am looking for a graphic card for Photo editing such as Photoshop.

Following is my PC config :

CPU : Intel Core i7 2600
RAM : 6 GB 16xx Hz
Board : Gigabyte P67-UD3
HDD : 120Gb SSD

(1) Salesperson suggests ATI HD-5770 and NVIDIA GTX-570. Which one is better ?

(2) Since I am not a gamer, DirectX & and OpenGL are not my concerns. My budget is US$ 150, any other suggestions ?

Thanks

You may want to look into graphics cards made for graphic working, such as Matox cards, Radeon FireGL and nVidia QuadroFX series. There are cheap cards which could suit your needs without unnecessary features you don't need.

well 5770 and GTX570 are not even close in performance.......

i dont know if the programs you will be using to edit the pictures will support Cuda/Stream, so i would sugest you go with the cheapest card.... perhaps 5750 or 56xx.... GTX 220 - 250

i cant see you needing a video card with any more power then those above ( unless your programs use cuda or stream.)

No, I don't need CUDA now. My main use of PC is Photo editing

Since I mentioned that I'm studying Video Edition & DVD authoring, there4, the salesperson suggest GTX570 whose CUDA will be helpful

Adobe partners with Nvidia and provides acceleration through cuda. I'd go for any low end nvidia card from the current gen. Maybe wait a few weeks and see how the new GTS550 turns out. The 550 should stay adequate for the task for quite a while.

it is, but check

Power Director 9 p.e. uses Cuda. I am not up to date, check Cuda or Stream sites

Forgot that. Yeah, you don't need to latest and fattest gaming card for CUDA.

You probably want CUDA, but not GTX570 strength. I will probably avoid QuadroFX, because they are really pricey.

photoshop uses opengl based gpu acceleration for _display_ only

the editing functions do NOT use gpu computing power

any graphics card that can drive your screens will be fine - even the cheapest

He said that he is studying video editing too, and I got this feeling which he will eventually use 3DS Max, which uses CUDA, along with Maya.

I'm happy to hear that. But I'd rather enjoy faster respond time while zooming.

I don't agree with that suggestion. Those cards are made more for AutoCAD where rendering precision is very important, not Photoshop. Any ATI or Nvidia video card released in the past year or so under your $150 budget fits your needs.

I do not interest in 3D animation. I just try to put some video fragments into a DVD

If your just after faster zooming in/out seriously any mid range card will do you fine, resizing and zooming is not a hard thing for a gpu to do at all.

If I give up video editing and focus on photo editing, may I consider those All-in-one motherboards ?

No, just no. Intel integrated stuff sucks and is not to be bothered with. I'd suggest an nVidia GeForce GT 220 or similar, they seem to be good for Photoshop.

Aye look at the cards most mac pros come with, everyone loves macs for photo editing even though they have gt210 and 220s as default most of the time :p

I work a lot with photoshop cs5 and I use ati hd4850 512mb, and I am happy, I think you must look for any vga with at least bus 256b, memory 1gb and model no old more than 2 years, and in ps cs5 both ati/nvidia are well supported...
